Absher Construction Company is Hiring a Shop Manager Near Seattle, WA

Position Summary: The Shop Manager is responsible for maximizing the utilization of Absher Holdings equipment and tools across the project spectrum. Emphasis on the scheduling and allocation of equipment resources, assessing project needs and requests, and developing and providing optimized and low-cost solutions to meet project needs.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Management and Technical Skills

  • Participate in the development of capture plans with a focus on equipment/tool strategy
  • Coordinate with and optimize existing equipment/tool management plan, including but not limited to service intervals, inspections, certifications, and safety bulletins associated with each specific category of equipment
  • Responsible for rental department profitability
  • Responsible for regularly reviewing inventory levels, missed opportunity reports, tool utilization, and rental department-related expenses
  • Coordinate with project personnel for any equipment/tool-related activities
  • Manages inventory, maintenance, and depreciation of equipment and tools
  • Responsible for equipment/tool transfers between projects. Oversees the scheduling, delivery, and pickup of all equipment
  • Periodically drive for deliveries/pickups as required to service projects
  • Works daily with the project management and key employees to prioritize customer service issues
  • Responsible for maintaining good ‘housekeeping’ conditions for the department, equipment, tools, and the yard
  • Responsible for obtaining all necessary paperwork and signatures for every rental transaction
  • Manage rental rates, rent tracking, transfers, buying or selling, estimating and cost projections for maintenance and or repair decisions on equipment and tools
  • Periodically reviews the competition, suggesting adjustments to price and offerings
  • Educate customers by conducting or coordinating equipment/tool demonstrations
  • Develop and maintain proficient skills in operating the equipment and tools in the rental inventory, along with practical application knowledge
  • Work closely with the accountant to confirm and verify the accuracy of billings
  • Periodically drive for deliveries/pickups as required to service projects
  • Review and advise on capital expenditure. Engage with local vendors on capital expenditure opportunities for the utilization by our projects for efficiency and cost savings

Preferred Qualifications

  • Recognize the importance of customer service and customer relations
  • Ability to communicate effectively with audiences that include but are not limited to management, coworkers, clients, vendors, contractors, and visitors
  • Ability to learn and apply knowledge of all local, state, and national statutes and guidelines regarding equipment licensing, certifications, permitting, and hauling
  • Strong planning and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Proficiency with common computer applications (MS Office and operating systems)
  • Must be a team player and possess strong interpersonal skills
  • Mechanical aptitude is important to ‘problem solving’ in managing the business
  • A thorough understanding of the different construction activities and phases involved in construction projects
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in using and training of Point of Rental

Education and Experience

  • 3-5 years of experience in the construction equipment and tools or related industry
  • Valid driver’s license with ability to obtain CDL
  • Excellent understanding of warehouse management procedures
  • Outstanding leadership, organizational, multitasking, and problem-solving skills

Physical Demands:

This job may be performed in the office or on the jobsite and requires frequent sitting (often working on a computer), frequent walking, standing, bending, and reaching. Heavy lifting may be needed; the employee should be able to lift items up to 40lbs. Due to computer usage, there may be repetitive motions of the hands and wrists. He/she must be able to navigate the jobsite and is expected to be able to comply with all safety regulations in the office and on the jobsite.

The salary range for this position is $110,000 to120,000 with the average starting salary in the 40th percentile range; commensurate with experience and training. This ensures we get you properly seated within our organization so that all parties feel good about our future together.
