Lead Data Scientist

We expect all data scientists to be hands on with respects to the analysis of a retailer database, using the full suite of 84.51° technical tools - R, Python, SQL, Azure, Tableau and other specific internal tools – to create timely, relevant, and actionable insights.

ROLE SUMMARY: The Health and Wellness team is seeking a Lead Data Scientist to join their team. In this role, you will apply your data science skills in the fast-growing digital media marketing industry. Our team is dedicated to driving application of 1st party data to targeting, measurement, and planning for Kroger Health Brand Marketing. In this role you will:

• Lead the delivery of the custom insights and campaign measurement portion of the workstream for the team.
• Define and drive the annual learning agenda & custom insights roadmap
• Drive valuable strategic decisions through insights and analytics on how this important part of Kroger marketing becomes even more effective
• Guide and direct data scientists on measurement methods, creating impactful insights, and developing strategic recommendations

Communications and media marketing for Kroger Health is a relatively new area for 84.51° with lots of opportunities to test and learn new ideas. If you have a desire to help Kroger’s customers live healthier lives, then this may be the perfect role for you.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Lead the delivery of the custom insights and campaign measurement portion of the workstream for the team in support of client marketing goals, ensuring that best practices and innovative ideas are adopted. 
• Drive forward impactful projects and ensure quality and timeliness of all measurement & insights deliverables.
• Define and drive a roadmap for future custom insights and learning agenda that will make communications and media marketing even more effective
• Own the relationship with the client, ensuring high levels of client engagement and the successful delivery of client projects. 
• Scope and manage projects from beginning to end, including all commercial elements to ensure that projects are delivered on time, within budget and to brief specification.
• Work closely with stakeholders to ensure sound knowledge of client objectives and customer insight, to subsequently design best-in-class solutions and provide strategic recommendations.
• Proactively manage the development of best practice and knowledge management, and champion the capture and sharing of knowledge across the data science community.
• Guide and direct data scientists on measurement methods, creating impactful insights, and developing strategic recommendations
• Identify & prioritize improvements to our measurement and reporting processes and define requirements for the improvements.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE:

• Bachelor's degree in mathematics, statistics, analytics, data science or related discipline
• Experience defining, leading, and delivering impactful custom insights and analytics projects that drive strategic marketing decisions
• 4 years of experience in consulting or professional services
• 4 years of experience in extracting insights from large databases, translating insights into actionable solutions, and presenting findings and recommendations to clients
• 4 years of experience in analytics across retail, media, shopper marketing, or CPG insights
• Retail pharmacy experience is a plus.
• Experience measuring effectiveness of personalized communications and media plans is a plus
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills including excellent verbal, written, presentation and consultation skills
• Data visualization skills and ability to present technical solutions to non-technical audience.
• Strong analytical, creative problem-solving and decision-making skills
• Strong technical skills working with large datasets via SQL, R and/or Python
• Experience with R is preferred;
• Experience using Github
• Experience with data wrangling, data cleaning and prep, dimensionality reduction.
• Able to quickly come up to speed on new processes, new solutions, and new data
• Proven ability to effectively manage time across multiple projects active at the same time
• Ability to work in a highly collaborative environment.
