The 80 Acres Climate Justice Cooperative School is seeking a passionate and creative Art and Music Teacher to join our team. This role is designed for an individual who believes in using art and music as powerful tools for environmental education, advocacy, and the fostering of a deep connection with the planet. The successful candidate will be instrumental in developing an integrated art and music curriculum that not only teaches technical skills but also incorporates themes of sustainability, climate justice, and environmental stewardship.

Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Curriculum Development: Develop and implement a dynamic art and music curriculum that integrates principles of climate justice and environmental sustainability. Create lesson plans that encourage creativity, critical thinking, and engagement with environmental issues.
  • Teaching and Instruction: Provide instruction in art and music that caters to a range of skills and ages, ensuring each student's creative and educational needs are met. Foster a supportive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages artistic expression and environmental advocacy.
  • Student Engagement: Inspire students to use art and music as forms of environmental expression and activism. Guide students in projects and performances that raise awareness about climate change and sustainability.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with other faculty members to integrate art and music into a broader environmental education curriculum. Participate in school events, exhibitions, and performances that showcase student work and promote the school's mission.
  • Professional Development: Remain current on best practices in art and music education, as well as environmental and climate justice issues. Participate in professional development opportunities and collaborate with environmental organizations to enrich the curriculum.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 2 years of teaching experience, with a preference for candidates who have experience in integrating environmental themes into their instruction.
  • Strong foundation in both art and music pedagogies and the ability to teach across a range of mediums and musical instruments.
  • Demonstrated commitment to environmental education and climate justice.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage students and community members.
  • First Aid and CPR certification, or willingness to obtain.

  • A passion for art, music, and environmental advocacy.
  • Creative and innovative in teaching methods and curriculum development.
  • Ability to inspire and motivate students to express themselves artistically and advocate for environmental change.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
