10 Design, part of Egis’ Architecture Line, is a global architecture and master planning practice. 

A dynamic team of 400 architects and designers are strategically located across three regional headquarters in London, Hong Kong, and San Francisco, and six additional studios in pivotal global markets – Singapore, Dubai, Miami, Edinburgh, Dallas, and Shenzhen.

10 Design boasts a diverse portfolio of award-winning projects across various sectors, including mixed-use, retail, office, residential, hospitality, transport, education, culture, and civic. Their innovative and multidisciplinary approach has earned them over 340 international awards and a spot on the WA100 list of top architectural practices.

Following a successful merger with SB Architects in July 2022, 10 Design will continue to expand its global influence under a singular banner but will operate as 10SB for an interim period of approximately 12 months in the Americas.

Key Objectives

We are on the lookout for a passionate Human Resources Business Partner to join our team in San Francisco. This role is a cornerstone of our HR functions, working under the leadership of the Human Resources Director (UK based), you will be pivotal in shaping our workplace culture, leading and managing a variety of HR tasks and projects for the American studios. This role requires autonomy, excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and a strong ability to multitask. The ideal candidate will be a proactive person who is passionate about fostering a positive and inclusive work environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a partner and advisor to the management team around all HR/people related issues and take ownership for shaping and building a high-impact people, talent, and culture function to support organizational goals and contribute to positive employee engagement and success.
  • Ensure day-to-day people operations that support the entire employee lifecycle including onboarding, benefits, leave and payroll management, talent acquisition, performance management, learning, employee engagement, and retention.
  • Manage the recruitment and talent acquisition process to ensure the timely filing of key organizational roles with high-quality talent.
  • Oversee and manage the organization’s compensation and total rewards program including related policies, procedures, and reporting requirements. Ensure that these programs are aligned with the organization’s goals, budget considerations, market competition, and employee priorities.
  • Oversee and manage a robust Performance Management system. Ensure alignment with learning and employee development frameworks including individual employee development plans, career pathways, tracking learning and performance goals, and succession planning.
  • Champion culture, diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives
  • Ensure that all employment policies and practices are updated with current best practices. Collaborate with outside counsel as needed to maintain compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
  • Serve as the escalation point for proactively, empathetically, and confidentially addressing all critical employee relations issues. Develop strategies and interventions to address them including guiding and coaching managers and employees.
  • Assist when needed with processing payroll and provide support in US based benefits administration, including enrollment, claims resolution, and communication with employees regarding benefit option.
  • Oversee HR projects, ensuring compliance with state-specific legislation and EEOC requirements.
  • Manage FMLA, CFRA, and disability leaves, along with workers' compensation claims.
  • Maintain HR metrics and prepare HR-related reports and presentations for management as needed.

Location/Travel

  • The role will be office based in San Francisco.
  • We work on a “9/80” work schedule with every other Friday off.
  • Occasional travel may be required.

Requirements

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required and SHRM certification preferred.
  • 5 years in Human Resources, with a focus on California and Florida labor laws.
  • Experience in architecture, engineering, or related fields would be highly beneficial.
  • Significant and deep knowledge across the areas of talent acquisition, talent management, performance and learning, total rewards including compensation and benefits, employee engagement, DEIA initiatives, and HR technologies.
  • Strong understanding of employment law, government compliance regulations, and best practices in HR/People operations.
  • Familiarity with HRIS systems (Paylocity, Oracle and Smart Recruiters experience is a bonus).

  • Ability to work autonomously in an extremely fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Ability to work in a global setting with an overseas reporting line.
  • Excellent communications skills, including the ability to listen to the needs of others.
  • In-depth knowledge of labor laws and HR practices
  • The ability to remain calm in stressful situations and deal well with conflict.
