What is TOOF?

The Other Ones Foundation (TOOF) is a nonprofit that offers extremely low-barrier work opportunities, case management, and humanitarian aid to people experiencing homelessness. TOOF offers several homeless services related programs which include the Work-Force First (WFF) program, the Mobile Hygiene Clinic, Going Home, and the service coordinator for the Esperanza Community.

Job Summary:

The Other Ones Foundation’s Chief Financial Officer, an Executive level position within the organization, will report directly to the President, who has been the CFO of the organization for the last 5 years. This person will work closely with the President, Board of Directors Finance Committee, and Executive leadership to develop and implement financial strategies that support the organization. The perfect candidate will delight Directors and fellow Executive Staff through incredible communication, self-driven work ethic, impeccable organizational skills, and general diligence and professionalism displayed in all activities.
This position will supervise all finance, accounting, compliance, and risk functions, and will collaborate closely with all revenue generating teams, including Magnolia Services, a revenue generating division within the Foundation. The ability to collaborate effectively with other team members of different disciplines across the organization is critical to the CFO's success.
Job Responsibilities:

  • Management of Accounting / Compliance and Risk - departments including process refinement and alignment building between departments Having experienced so much growth, increasing from 25 to 130 full-time staff in less than two years, there are still significant opportunities to refine processes cross departmentally.
  • Cash flow forecasting - consolidating all operating spending with construction spend and increasingly diversified revenue streams is a critical primary responsibility of the CFO. We have used Fathom forecasting in the past, we currently have our financial model built in Jira, but the President will be actively involved in building out new financial models in whatever software solution is most comfortable for the CFO. Implementation of beautiful, consistent, and timely reporting, that is digestible by a variety of audiences, will be a critical early responsibility.
  • Monthly Executive and external reporting developed in close collaboration with the President. Deliver simple, elegant reporting to the Board of Directors, external stakeholders (including major donors) and fellow Executive team members.
  • Facilitate annual collaborative budgeting, including creating accessible and meaningful budget templates for Departments to complete, ensuring technical support and guidance is provided, navigate negotiations with Department heads to balance budgets and ensure the Organizations’ FY budget is reflective of Department needs and anticipated trends.
  • Oversee internal budget reporting and guidance that provides functional and action-oriented information to department leadership. Various formats may be used to educate on and empower fiscal management across the organization.
  • Construction accounting accountability to monitor an external project management consulting firm and to refine construction data getting into the accounting system and forecast models.
  • Ensure Accounting staff interface with Human Resource and Fundraising staff to provide regular, timely reporting, with the eventual goal being a closeout that is so timely and predictable that it allows for distribution of materially accurate reporting automation across the organization.
  • Ensure accuracy of all software integrations as part of monthly closeout. Current configuration is a combination of manual and direct integrations.
  • Own all historical accounting processes and all sub-processes delegated to team members.
  • Support Accounting / Compliance and Risk staff to refine, monitor and update internal controls to stay in line with sector-wide best practices and audit/contract requirements.
  • Ensure GAAP compliance and all other regulatory and contractual compliance.

Job Qualifications:

  • 7 years non-profit accounting experience required, including managing a finance and accounting team at a director level or higher.
  • Experience with Ramp Corporate Spending System is a plus.
  • Experience with Capital Budgeting and Capital Projects required.
  • Experience with funding through the City of Austin, Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs, Federal Housing and Urban Development and/or Travis County strongly preferred.
  • 7 years of non-profit audit experience, either as an auditor, auditee, or any combination of the two
