**Job Title: Inpatient Registrar & Reimbursement Specialist Job Location: Lincoln Immediate Supervisor: Inpatient Access Manager Status: Non-exempt** **JOB OVERVIEW** Responsible for the efficient and orderly registration of inpatient admissions for Madonna business lines. Obtains and completes patient demographic information, consents and authorizations and ensures patients are aware of financial responsibility. Other responsibilities include maintaining referral inquiries, typing, word processing, faxing, photocopying for the department. Ability to prioritize, organize and effectively handle multiple tasks and interruptions in a positive manner. Proficient in the use of the Registration Application of AFFINITY, add information to Sunrise, and scan medical records to appropriate folders. Responsible for verifying, recording, and revising financial payer information for all inpatients. Consults, advises, and assists the Inpatient Access Manager and Director Access & Reimbursement in providing leadership and direction in planning and coordinating customer access. **ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS** (INFORMATION)1. Computes and records the Medicare benefit days used and available for all Medicare Part A recipients for accurate Medicare billing.2. Verifies Medicaid and Medicare eligibility for all inpatient programs to determine primary payor source and third-party liability coverage, then communicates with Nurse liaison via email.3. Identify admissions that are related to a motor vehicle accident and/or fall information to complete the Accident Questionnaire and record in EMR.4. Responsible for acquiring all Accident Report Forms. Understands and operationalizes admission policy and procedures.5. Obtains and enters required demographic information into the computer system prior to the patient’s admission. Verifies accuracy and generates an admission record in a timely fashion.6. Investigates and communicates third party liability coverage to appropriate staff.7. Monitors daily admissions, transfers, and discharges, consulting Drs., room account changes and appropriately records transactions in the computer system.8. Enters daily activity on the Intranet and calls appropriate staff with changes in the activity and confirm in Sunrise.9. Coordinates the receipt of the “ID Screen” for patients in the Subacute/SNF program. (Lincoln Only)10. Saves clinical information sent in by Nurse Liaisons in the I Drive/Clinical Document folder.11. Updates patient demographic and financial information to ensure complete and accurate files.12. Enter all required information upon notification of an in house transfer.13. Contact by phone family/next of kin for verbal Consent to Treat if unable to obtain by patient.14. Mail Certified Mail out to family to validate verbal consent.15. Periodically update patient demographic and scan into Sunrise.16. Registration process for Outpatient Laboratory.17. Registration process for Outpatient Radiology. (Lincoln Only)(PEOPLE)1. Collaborates and communicates with others effectively and professionally to insure successful and efficient outcomes both internally and externally.2. Interviews and registers incoming patients and/or family of the patient in person or via telephone prior to admission. 3. Escorts patients and families to their assigned rooms. Patients arriving by ambulance are escorted to their rooms by ambulance personnel.4. Maintains patient confidentiality. Follows facility protocols in communicating and releasing patient information.5. Answers telephone quickly and courteously as needed. 6. Receives, greets and directs patients and visitors in a positive and conscientious manner.7. Follows instruction from supervisor to perform other functions as assigned in order to achieve the goals within the department as well as within the facility.8. Communicates with various outside sources to obtain and/or verify necessary demographic, financial and liability information.**QUALIFICATIONS** High school equivalency and one year relevant work experience preferred. Experience is to consist of any of the following: medical registration, and insurance processing/collection. Demonstrated ability within a related position at Madonna may be considered in lieu of one year relevant experience. Must have working knowledge of personal computers and Microsoft office programs such as (Word, Access, Outlook, Excel, etc.), and office machines. Must have excellent communication and organizational skills with the ability to problem solve. Must be able to work in demanding situations without adverse reaction and interact in a positive manner with staff and public, either in person or via telephone.
