Wheeler Mission is Hiring a Donor Relations Officer Near Indianapolis, IN

Position Summary:

The Donor Relations Manager reports directly to the Senior Director, Philanthropy & Development, working in coordination with both the Donor Services team and the rest of the Donor Relations team, to own the responsibility of stewarding individual and institutional donors who have been identified as potential mid and major gift-level donors, and for taking initial steps to engage them more personally in the work we do at Wheeler Mission

Qualifications

Qualifications:

To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies to perform the essential functions of this position:

  • Possess a sincere love of Christ and maintain a Christian walk that is evident of that love. Individuals must be willing to sign and adhere to the Wheeler Mission Statement of Faith and Code of Conduct.
  • One year of successful development/marketing/sales experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of best practices in segmented marketing strategies as they apply to fundraising.
  • Have familiarity with constituent relationship management (CRM) software tools – with Raiser’s Edge a plus.
  • Analytical abilities – ability to read, analyze, and interpret multiple data sources to predict donor likelihood of giving high-capacity gifts; package data in logical order to communicate with donor team.
  • Interpersonal Skills – maintains confidentiality, remains open to others’ ideas and exhibits a willingness to try new things; works well in a team atmosphere and gets along well with others; prioritizes work activities, uses time efficiently, and develops realistic action plans.
  • Adaptability – adapts well to changes in the work environment, manages stress effectively, manages competing demands and can deal effectively with frequent change, delays, or unexpected events. The ability to work effectively in a team environment with associates and be equally effective and productive working on individual projects requiring minimal direct supervision.
  • Communications – Exceptional written communication skills a must. Communicates well via email, routinely edits work for spelling and grammar errors, presents numerical data effectively and is able to read and interpret written information. Must have excellent ability to compose business correspondence and ability to create effective visual presentations using multiple electronic platforms and programs.
  • Dependability – consistently on time, willing to work overtime, weekends, and holidays when required, follows instructions, responds to management direction, and solicits feedback to improve personal performance.

Essential Tasks/Functions:

Major Responsibilities:

  • Donor Stewardship, Engagement and Qualification of Mid-Level Donors.
    • Effectively steward a large pool of individual and institutional donors who give between $500 and $1,500 annually, using data-driven analysis to target those within the pool who have demonstrated propensity and increased capacity.
    • Working in conjunction with the Donor Relations and Donor Services teams, plan and implement appropriate programs for donor education, engagement, and stewardship to include, but not limited to, regular written touchpoints and/or impact reports, invitations to group events (including tours), volunteer experiences, and other stewardship efforts.
    • Work collaboratively with Donor Research Analyst and other members of Donor Relations team to identify potential middle/major gift or legacy giving candidates and move them into relationships with the appropriate
  • Circle of Hope Stewardship.
    • Oversee and manage Circle of Hope monthly giving stewardship program that generates over $1.25 million annually for the ministry. The primary focus will be on the service of this group and retention.
    • Track activities and special touches for monthly donors in donor software.
    • Work with Donor Research Analyst and Director of Donor Servies in generating useful reports that contribute to the objectives of the monthly giving program.
    • In conjunction with Donor Relations team, target specific monthly donors for inviting them to (annual) stewardship opportunities/events.
    • In conjunction with Events Team and Volunteer Ministry, develop strategies for engaging participants and volunteers in becoming monthly givers to the ministry.
  • Work closely with the Director of Donor Services on maintaining accurate information in the donor software and in monitoring performance categories and tracking trends in mid-level donor performance (i.e., attrition and retention, growth rates, average gift amounts, etc.).
  • Collaborate with Senior Directors of Development on special projects to ensure development programs continue to grow in meeting ongoing revenue goals.

Educational Events:

  • Attend training seminars as needed.

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in an office setting and performs other tasks in an outdoors environment. For example, help with donor events like the Drumstick Dash, 100 Holes for the Homeless, and other donor events. This job is eligible to work from home.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing this job the employee is required to talk and listen. It is a typical office environment with some outdoor work in a variety of weather conditions. Occasional evening and weekend work are required. Heavy computer use utilizing Microsoft Office suite of products, donor database, research software, and other programs.

Required Education and Experience:

Completion of a bachelor’s degree. Emphasis in building relationships and effectively communicating – business or nonprofit management preferred.

Preferred Education and Experience:

Previous experience in donor software and data analysis. Prefer an understanding of nonprofit fund development process and theory.

Background Investigation and Drug Testing:

After a “conditional offer of employment” is made, the individual must pass a background investigation which includes a consumer credit investigative report.

Wheeler Mission has a mandatory drug testing policy for all new employees. The successful applicant must submit to and pass a drug and/or alcohol test. This drug and/or alcohol testing may occur any time after the applicant receives a conditional offer of employment. All employees must sign and adhere to WM Drugs and Alcohol policy and remain free from addiction to drugs or alcohol.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position has no direct staff supervisory responsibilities.

Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time 40-hour per week position. Typically, work hours will be from 9AM to 5PM, but must be willing to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and some holidays; these and overtime work will be required as job duties demand.

Travel:

Travel is primarily local and mainly during the business day and may include traveling to WM facilities in Bloomington, Indiana as well as special event locations as job duties demand.
