Description

TITLE: Vance Outdoors Buyer - Firearms

Reports To: CEO, COO

SUMMARY: This position is responsible for planning, managing, selecting, and purchasing goods and merchandise that are sold in the Vance retail stores and online. They look for new and review existing goods in store to ensure the store's competitiveness. The takes current inventory, sales trends, supply chain, and customer needs into account when deciding what to buy. Responsible for keeping tabs on inventory.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Core duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. 

  • Negotiating and forming relationships with wholesalers and manufacturers. Sourcing and building relations with new suppliers
  • Sourcing and selecting new products through catalogs and by attending national and international trade fairs and events
  • Monitoring market changes, competitor prices, and products
  • Monitor sales and inventory within the store and must ensure the quality and value of the products. 
  • Responsible for keeping tabs on inventory (min/max) and transfers between locations to make sure product is available at all locations and adequate supplies are available for sale.
  • Analyzing past sales patterns to anticipate trends in consumer buying pattern
  • Recommending clearance sales and varying delivery schedules to help control stock levels
  • Assisting visual merchandisers in planning store layouts to promote key lines
  • Working with the advertising department in order to present sales promotions.
  • Responsible for promoting a positive culture within the company.
  • Enforces safety, health, and security rules. 
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures.
  • All other duties as required by management.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or three years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to

write correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group

situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide into all units of measure, using whole numbers, common

fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar

graphs.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral

COMPUTER SKILLS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of; Microsoft Suite to include above average knowledge of Excel and Outlook. Inventory Software; and Order Processing Systems.
