General Description Reporting directly to the Director of Operations for Academic Affairs, the Retention Data Specialist will support data-informed decision making, assist in retention and graduation efforts using predictive analytics, early alerts and other early flagging activities based on accurate, real-time data, and train employees in using Navigate and related retention tools. The expected start date for this role is 04/01/2024. Salary: $70,000; non-negotiable Duties & Responsibilities
Collect, analyze, and maintain accurate and up-to-date student data.
Generate reports and dashboards to identify trends, patterns, and areas of concern related to student retention and graduation.
Compare real time data to historical data to identify trends and/or changes in student success indicators.
Analyze students' academic performance in comparison to non-academic data points to paint a holistic picture of the overall student experience.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including but not limited to academic advisors, faculty, IT, and student support services, to improve retention efforts.
Communicate findings and recommendations to relevant stakeholders in a clear and concise manner.
Collaborate with academic advisors and faculty to provide actionable insights based on data analysis.
Conduct research to identify innovative strategies for improving retention rates and make recommendations for process improvements based on research findings.
Prepare regular reports for the Director of Operations for Academic Affairs and other senior leaders
Coordinate with academic advisors and student support services to implement timely interventions for at-risk students.
Conduct training sessions for faculty, staff, and administrators on the use of Navigate and other retention tools.
Provide ongoing support and guidance to users of these tools.
Stay current with updates and enhancements to retention technology platforms.
Track and document the outcomes of intervention efforts
Use statistical techniques to forecast student outcomes and recommend interventions.
Monitor the effectiveness of predictive models and make adjustments as needed.
Collaborate with IT to modernize data management, data governance, and data literacy of student success indicators.
Ensure compliance with relevant data privacy and security regulations.
Adhere to institutional policies and procedures related to data handling and reporting.
Serve on University committees as appointed and work on related, special projects and initiatives as assigned.
Qualification Standards
Master's degree in information systems, mathematics/statistics, data science, education or a related field requiring data use, research, and/or analytics.
Strong technical, statistical, and reporting skills
Proficiency with office computing and data analysis tools.
At minimum, 1 year of experience in data analysis and predictive modeling.
Familiarity with student information systems and retention software (e.g., Navigate).
Strong communication and presentation skills.
Ability to think critically and produce patterns of student/client behaviors in oral and written formats.
