Freeborn County is seeking Election/Ballot Board Judges supporting our Elections processes for the 2024 Primary and General Election. Election Judge positions are being offered throughout 2024 for ones interested in working with the Auditor-Treasurer’s Office at Freeborn County. The hours are flexible.

Freeborn County is seeking to hire 6-8 Election Judges for 2024.

IMPORTANT: The IRS treats election officials, including election judges, as W-2 employees for income tax purposes. Election judges are not “public employees” for purposes of the Public Employment Labor Relations Act (“PELRA”). Minn. Stat. § 179A.03, subd. 14(2).

JOB SUMMARY:

The Election Judge supports critical government infrastructure by assisting the Auditor-Treasurer with administering Federal, State, County and Local elections and maintaining accountability for ensuring elections are in compliance with election laws.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

To be an election judge, you:

• must be eligible to vote in Minnesota
• must be able to read, write, and speak English
• cannot be a spouse, parent, child, or sibling of any election judge serving at the Freeborn County Courthouse.
• cannot be a candidate or the spouse, parent, child, or sibling of any candidate on the ballots in Freeborn County
• must attend required paid training, in-person

CERTIFICATIONS:

The incumbent must become certified as an Election Judge and complete absentee ballot board training upon hire. In order to comply with Minn. Stat. 204B.19 Subd. 5, you will be required to provide us, at the time of an interview, your political affiliation if you do not provide it on supplemental question #3.
