PRE-EMPLOYMENT SCREENINGS: Brenau University will conduct criminal background checks on all persons being considered for initial employment. In some circumstances, an FBI fingerprint report may be necessary to satisfy the requirement. Once employed, employees must hold and continue to maintain a favorable criminal history background. Random background checks are performed. Credit checks may be performed on candidates/employees who are selected for a position that regularly engages in handling credit cards or other company monies. A Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) may be performed during the hiring process, or as part of a random check. MVR checks are required to meet insurance requirements for those employees operating a university vehicle or participating in any driving activity on behalf of Brenau University, (including operating a golf cart, rented vehicle or one’s personal vehicle). Employees who travel must be at least 21 years of age, have a valid Georgia driver’s license, and good driving record. All employees who operate university vehicles, who are employed in a sensitive position, or who travel regularly as part of their job responsibilities may be subject to post-hire drug screening and random drug-screening. All employees are subject to reasonable suspicion drug screening..

Position Summary:

The Coordinator of Global Experiences supports the Executive Director, Director of ISSS, Office Manager and International Liaison Officer in the attainment of the goals established by the Office, which are aligned with Brenau University’s mission and strategic plan. With the goal of providing comprehensive support in alignment with other departments, the Coordinator focuses on enhancing the experience of international students on campus, provides services during their transition and creates meaningful structured activities and events to support their development, acclimatization to the new culture, and assimilation with the rest of the student population. At the same time, the Coordinator works with all Brenau students to promote global experiential learning opportunities, which could be delivered on campus, abroad, or through virtual modality, incorporating all campus constituencies, experts and friends of the university in our extended community, or international partners abroad.

Additional Information about the Position:

The Program Coordinator must work with students, student candidates, other departments and groups across campus, other educational institutions (high schools and universities), organizations and agencies. Also, presents and reports to foreign governments sponsoring students.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate studies in related field, masters’ preferred. Knowledge of student development theory and understanding of the cycle of socialization.
  • Experience working with diverse student populations.
  • Good oral and communication skills.
  • Good cross-cultural skills.
  • Must use judgement and possess the ability to recognize the appropriate procedure to apply in each situation encountered. Must be able to handle emergencies. Must minimize risks safeguarding the wellbeing of students and colleagues. Must be preemptive, anticipating and preparing for contingencies, asking supervisor for guidance if needed.
  • Personal qualities must include adaptability, patience, creativity, empathy, tolerance for ambiguity, good crisis management skills.
  • Personal skills must include adapting to a fast-pace and rapidly changing environment. Maintaining open communication channels. Has a positive attitude and desire to learn. Most foster an atmosphere of positive teamwork.
  • Possess administrative experience, be self-starter, well organized and detailed oriented. Must be able to prioritize projects and tasks. Ensures compliance with regulations and internal policies. Serves as the liaison with other departments such as Finance, Student Services, Athletics, Aramark, among others.
  • Display high level of dedication to Brenau University. Must arrive punctually, observe scheduled hours, dress professionally, use vacation and wellness hours leave appropriately and according to university’s policies.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion and tact.
  • Ability to speak multiple languages is preferred.

Responsibilities: 

  • Helps plan, organize and coordinate the logistical support for international programs, including the coordination of calendars, including the Office’s calendar, to ensure the seamlessly high standard delivery of each program with creating overlaps or conflicts between them.
  • Helps to plan, organize and coordinate meaningful extra-curricular programming on a monthly basis to help facilitate the transition and integration of international students to our campus community. The activities could be on or off campus. Ensures the establishment of clear and measurable objectives, results, and activities to be carried out together with costing of each program. Coordinates procurement of goods and services, transportation, reservations of venues, and all necessary arrangements for those activities. Prepares comprehensive reports of all deliverables. Communicates through the appropriate channels with students and pertinent campus constituencies, especially domestic students, to promote such activities in order to attain a minimum number of attendees to ensure the program is relevant.
  • Serves as the International Club Adviser, which brings together domestic and international students with common goals.
  • Ensures the establishment of clear and measurable objectives, results, and activities to be carried out together with costing of each program, project, activity, or event that helps promote cultural awareness and understanding of global issues or realities among all campus constituencies. A minimum of one activity per month is required. The Coordinator is responsible for the coordination of all necessary logistical needs, promotion and communication, as well as reporting and documenting each activity.
  • Works with newly arrived international students who are interested in participating in the International Friendship Program, to be paired with colleagues as a support system.
  • Supports the creation of Program reports for programs sponsored by international partners, providing evidences of each activity, event, project and program organized and delivered.
  • In collaboration with the International Liaison Officer, promotes and coordinates all needs to increase the number of students and faculty engaged in Study Abroad, Faculty Led Short International Programs and virtual learning opportunities to expand global awareness and understanding.
  • Other duties as assigned including clerical and administrative as needed.

Physical Demands and Aptitudes:

Sedentary work. Work is performed in an office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards. Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Must have the ability to walk short distances, and/or drive a vehicle to deliver and pick up materials. Exerting up to 15 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Repetitive motion. Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.

Able and willing to drive 15 passenger vans.

Work Hours:

37.5 hours per week. Generally Monday-Friday from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm. Hours may be extended to meet the needs of the department. Some evening and weekend hours. The Office of International Strategy and Partnerships is considered an essential department due to the services it provides to international students. Staff will be coordinated ahead of time to be on-call in a rotation agreed among members of the team.

Travel Requirements:

Minimum domestic and international travel could occur.
