Brenau University Inc is Hiring an University Chaplain (Non-Denominational) Near Gainesville, GA

PRE-EMPLOYMENT SCREENINGS: Brenau University will conduct criminal background checks on all persons being considered for initial employment. In some circumstances, an FBI fingerprint report may be necessary to satisfy the requirement. Once employed, employees must hold and continue to maintain a favorable criminal history background. Random background checks are performed. Credit checks may be performed on candidates/employees who are selected for a position that regularly engages in handling credit cards or other company monies. A Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) may be performed during the hiring process, or as part of a random check. MVR checks are required to meet insurance requirements for those employees operating a university vehicle or participating in any driving activity on behalf of Brenau University, (including operating a golf cart, rented vehicle or one’s personal vehicle). Employees who travel must be at least 25 years of age, have a valid Georgia driver’s license, and good driving record. All employees who operate university vehicles, who are employed in a sensitive position, or who travel regularly as part of their job responsibilities may be subject to post-hire drug screening and random drug-screening. All employees are subject to reasonable suspicion drug screening.

University Chaplain – Part-Time

Non-Denominational

The mission of the Chaplain and chaplaincy programming is to nurture individual and shared spiritual awareness and growth, build community relations on and beyond the campus, and encourage service to others, through availability to work with Brenau students and all other University constituencies.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education – Master of Divinity, Master of Theology, or equivalent degree required.
  • Experience – Chaplaincy experience or ministry in a higher education environment; experience working with diverse populations and religions.
  • Skills & Abilities – Strong interpersonal communication skills (oral/written), effective listening, and student advocacy skills; ability to make sound decisions; strong organizational skills; knowledge of assessment practices including the development of learning outcomes and producing reports; knowledge of specific trends and issues affecting student life and student engagement; ability to incorporate principles of diversity/social justice into decision making.
  • Special Factors – Must be committed to teamwork and be able to work with all departments and personnel of the University, as well as demonstrate ability to work/collaborate with internal/external constituents and foster positive and productive relationships.

Responsibilities:

  • Promote an environment that welcomes all faiths and spiritual needs of the campus community.
  • Experience working with college students to promote their moral, religious, emotional, and spiritual development and educational success.
  • Plan and lead interfaith programming and service projects.
  • Advise and/or support student religious organizations.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and to appropriately navigate sensitive situations.
  • Support departmental or institutional projects/programs, including University events and traditions.
  • Contribute to the holistic development of students across communities through programs, events, leadership development, and membership.
  • Responsible for composing various types of communication, reports, and creation of promotional materials and presentations to encourage student engagement.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Vice President for Student Development & Engagement.

Environmental and Working Conditions:

  • Normal environment found in an educational setting.

Physical Demands and Aptitudes:

  • Sedentary work. Work is performed in an office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards. Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Must have the ability to walk short distances, and/or drive a vehicle to deliver and pick up materials. Exerting up to 20 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Repetitive motion. Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.

Work Hours:

  • Fifteen (15) hours per week maximum; to be developed with the successful candidate. Hours may be adjusted to meet the needs of the position and office.

Travel Requirements:

  • Travel to campuses required (Gainesville, Downtown, East, and Norcross).

Home Campus Designation:

This position is an on-ground position in Gainesville, GA.

Licensure Requirements:
