ORGANIZATION BACKGROUND:
Founded in 1992, After-School All-Stars is a national non-profit organization which provides free, daily afterschool programs to more than 140,000 children in need at 725 school and community sites in 19 chapters across the U.S. Our goals for our All-Stars are the same we have for our own children: to be healthy and active, to graduate high school and go on to college, to find a job that they love and to give back to their communities. We achieve this by identifying and fueling our students' individual passions, tying their interests to tailored academic support, enrichment and health and fitness programming.
A UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY:
After-School All Stars is currently seeking to hire a Finance Manager to work as part of the National Finance team to ensure the efficient and effective running of the ASAS day-to-day activities with responsibilities in finance, accounting, and business operations. The Finance Manager is an individual that will possess a wide array of non-profit accounting experience. The FM is part of a vibrant team, based in the organization’s Headquarters in Los Angeles, and will be assigned a portfolio of duties to include those outlined below. Requirements
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Prepare and submit invoices for reimbursement in accordance with government and private funder requirements.
• Collaborate with Chapter and development teams on grant budgets and proposals to reflect the needs of Chapter portfolio.
• Monthly credit card reconciliation for all shared chapters and national departments.
• Ensure payroll allocations on the chapter grants are done accurately and in a timely manner on
federal, local and state grants.
• Reconciles monthly American Express account totals ensuring expense reports tie to general ledger.
• Manage accounts payable through Financial Edge via invoice processing and credit card reconciliation.
• Manage accounts receivable through internal systems and Raiser’s Edge via revenue reconciliation and
grant billing tracking.
• Prepare journal entries and account reconciliations related to assigned finance portfolio.
• Perform data entry and quality information management related to financial grant compliance.
• Use critical thinking skills to identify issues and gaps that exist in finance reporting and collaborate
with the Financial Edge Administrator to proactively address those gaps.
• Work closely with Development and Chapter staff to identify areas of concern regarding grant
compliance and chapter finances.
• Ensure appropriate grant documentation is prepared and maintained to support reporting and annual
audits.
• Support with the management of the Net Assets Schedule for the assigned portfolio throughout the
year.
• Report on grant spend-down amounts monthly.
• Follow up with external agencies, vendor or independent chapters on outstanding invoices.
• Perform regular Financial Edge and Raiser’s Edge entries capturing information related to financial
grant compliance.
• Participate in monthly finance review meetings between the Finance Department and assigned
Chapter.
• Perform various administrative duties as assigned.
• Support and/or collaborate with other members of the Finance team on special projects as needed.
WHO SHOULD APPLY?
The Finance Manager will exemplify ASAS’s core values: proactive, transparent, accountable, collaborative, and entrepreneurial. The ideal candidate will be extremely organized and detailed-oriented with strong analytical and communication skills. Ability to multi-task and adapt to changing position demands are key. Team building and a collaborative working style are important attributes.
• At least 5-7 years of non-profit accounting experience.
• Experience with accounting and CRM systems such as Financial Edge and Raiser’s Edge, respectively, is
preferred.
• Demonstrated history of understanding internal controls and meeting objectives.
• Strong high-level Excel skills is a plus.
• A solid understanding of government grants, non-profit accounting, revenue recognition, cost
allocations, and single audit requirements is preferred.
• Ability to collaborate with different departments, such as Development, Human Resources, and
Programs
• An undergraduate degree or higher in business, finance, or accounting is required.
SALARY AND BENEFITS:
This is a full-time, exempt position with a starting salary of $70,000-$90,000 per year, commensurate with qualifications and experience of the individual candidate. This role is based in the LA Office and the ideal candidate is required to be onsite, five days a week.
