We’re Hiring an experienced Payroll Accountant!

Mann Mortgage, a growing multi-state, community-anchored, mortgage lending company dedicated to helping aspiring borrowers fulfill the dream of home ownership, has an immediate opening for a full-time onsite Payroll Accountant as part of our team in Kalispell, MT.

The Payroll Accountant’s primary responsibility is to ensure the accuracy and timeliness of payroll and related transactions along with complete accounting record keeping. The Payroll Accountant will process bi-weekly payroll for multi-states along with all state and federal payment and reporting requirements, auditing and reconciling of payroll documents and processes, and maintaining accurate record keeping of all defined approved processes. Will perform payroll related accounting entries and reconciliations. Shall maintain proper controls over all payroll calculations and related accounting processes, operate as a subject matter expert to resolve direct payroll calculation and accounting related issues, and continuously looks for improvements in operational processes. Will optimize the contribution of the payroll team by providing timely and relevant feedback to affect change where needed in coordination with Management.

As a Payroll Accountant, the following essential functions are in addition to your primary job functions. Essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Process and review all commission and loan related compensation calculations diligently ensuring compliance with all applicable company and government regulations and policies and schedules;
  • Process employee time & attendance data from the time system to payroll and reconcile variances utilizing tools in the payroll systems;
  • Perform all payroll functions as needed, including employee file changes, and set-up of new Employee profiles to include changes to direct deposit enrollments, tax withholdings, garnishments, and bonus and commission schedules;
  • Audit and reconcile wide range of personnel actions and payroll documents for the company;
  • Process employee data from the HR/Payroll system. Data will include new hire payroll set up, changes, additional earnings, etc.;
  • Process employee Time & Attendance data from the time system to payroll and reconcile variances utilizing tools in the time and payroll systems;
  • Approve and release time in the time system;
  • Transmit bi-weekly payroll to outside vendors as needed;
  • Audit bi-weekly payroll and prepare the payroll journal;
  • Prepare monthly metrics data as specified; time not entered and time not approved;
  • Provide customer service to employees: in the areas of pay, payroll taxes, benefits as they relate to their pay, how to enter time or time off, where to locate forms and information on company’s intranet, where to send completed forms, who to contact for benefit or HR questions and how to obtain IRS instructions on withholding issues;
  • Assist employees in registering for or resetting access to online pay stubs;
  • Transferring and interfacing data between multiple systems while maintaining the data’s integrity;
  • Prepare, review and reconcile payroll returns, ensuring accurate and timely submission in all state and federal reporting requirements;
  • Monitor and reconcile Employee and Employer Paid Benefit withholdings, payments and balances;
  • Calculate, adjust, reconcile and monitor PTO, Draw Balances, and Break Time adjustments accruals and usage;
  • Calculate and pay overtime premium;
  • Understand and maximize application of all Company software as it relates to accounting and payroll functions and processes;
  • Monitor payroll account balances and transaction details of account balances;
  • Ensure dual controls exist over all payroll and payroll accounting processes and cycles;
  • Assist Management with comprehensive implementation of new or changing practices, policies and procedures as necessary to ensure efficiency and effectiveness according to the direction of Management and in support of the Company’s initiatives;
  • Assist with Month End processes as assigned;
  • Perform due diligence in all material respects;
  • Meet expectations for attendance, punctuality and scheduling;
  • Maintain a highly secure workspace area;
  • Shall demonstrate, at all times, cooperative behavior and positive interaction with supervisors and Company team members and departments, branch personnel and investors, ensuring all communications and interactions are done in a courteous, professional, and timely manner;

This position prefers a Bachelor of Science in Accounting or Finance or Associates Degree and/or experience in financial institution or financial services industries. Minimum of 3 years of accounting or payroll related work experience desired and experience with Microsoft Office.

Requirements

  • 3 years of accounting and/or payroll related work experience required
  • Knowledge and experience of/with Payroll processes and multi-state payroll requirements desired
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance preferred or additional related work experience
  • Heavy Excel proficiency required
  • Prior experience with Paylocity highly preferred
  • Mortgage industry experience preferred
