Suzuki Strings Teacher and Orchestra Director

Moravian Academy seeks a Suzuki strings teacher and orchestra director with responsibility for

the middle and upper school music ensembles in grades K-12 on the Historic Downtown and

Merle-Smith Campuses.

The Position

This is a full-time position consisting of lessons, rehearsals, and events during normal school

hours (7:45 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.) as well as some evening and weekend performances. Moravian

Academy celebrates the arts, and our strings teacher plays an important role in the life of the

school and the performing arts department. The successful candidate will report to the Directors

of the campuses.

Essential Functions

● Teach Suzuki small group lessons for cello and violin beginning in Kindergarten.

● Plan and rehearse repertoire for the orchestras in all divisions.

● Manage personnel, attendance, materials, and maintenance of any school instruments.

● Plan and attend performances for ensembles including but not limited to concerts,

Vespers, and Lovefeasts.

● Assist any students preparing for PMEA Orchestra auditions.

● Demonstrate knowledge of developmental stages in children with targeted strategies to

attend to social and emotional needs of each child.

● Create meaningful partnerships with parents and families, including regular

communications through school-supplied online tools, emails, and phone calls.

● Regularly and appropriately assess student achievement and progress including writing

narrative reports every trimester.

● Participate in professional collaborations including committee and divisional meetings,

cross-divisional efforts, and grade-team meetings.

● Perform duties and coverages outside of the classroom across the Middle and Upper

Schools.

Preferred Qualifications

● Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree

● Experience teaching music to children required

● Experience conducting student groups strongly preferred

● Competence in connecting with students and creating a healthy classroom community

● Competence in connecting with parents

● Organized and purposeful about materials and lesson plans

● Collaboration with faculty and administration

● Excellence in classroom management techniques
