Moravian Academy is Hiring a Third Grade Spanish Immersion Long Term Substitute Near Bethlehem, PA

The Historic Downtown Campus of Moravian Academy is seeking a dynamic, innovative, and

experienced Spanish immersion third grade teacher to join our expert faculty for the remainder of the

2023-24 school year beginning on March 6. As an immersion teacher, the successful candidate will be

fluent in Spanish with native or near native proficiency.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Teach all core subjects in Spanish in a self-contained third grade lower school classroom
including mathematics, language arts, and social studies
  • Establish and maintain clear classroom expectations through leading morning meeting and
closing circle
  • Facilitate hands-on exploration, student collaboration and curiosity-filled experiences
  • Exhibit deep understanding of best practices in instructional design and assessment
  • Demonstrate knowledge of developmental stages in children with targeted strategies to attend

to social and emotional needs of each child

  • Create meaningful partnerships with parents and families, including regular communications
through school-supplied online tools, emails, and phone calls
  • Write narrative reports every trimester
  • Participate in professional collaborations including committee and divisional meetings,

cross-divisional efforts, and grade-team meetings

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in elementary education; Masters degree preferred
  • Previous classroom teaching experience; 3-year minimum preferred
  • Native or near native Spanish proficiency
  • Preference will be given to applicants with a previous background in independent schools and

those trained in Developmental Designs, Responsive Classroom, or a similar SEL program.

  • Is energetic, engaging, and creative with a clear love for children and the learning process
  • Uses student-centered teaching methodologies and other research-based practices
  • Commitment to meeting the needs of a diverse student population
  • Competence in connecting with students and creating an inclusive classroom community
  • Organized and purposeful about materials and lesson plans that are grounded in excellent

instructional design

  • Is a team player who is enthusiastic about collaboration with all other teachers and
administrators at Moravian Academy
  • Is a lifelong learner who is committed to continuing professional development
  • Ability to adhere to a high level of professional and ethical standards
  • Proficiency with Google Docs and other online data keeping systems
  • Clearances and authorization required to work with children in the State of Pennsylvania

Moravian Academy, located in historic Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, is a Preschool through 12th-grade

co-educational college preparatory school and the ninth oldest independent school in the United

States. Founded in 1742, Moravian Academy continues to be a school in motion. After a recent merger

with The Swain School, Moravian Academy comprises over 900 students and 200 employees. The

Duration:

This long term substitute position runs from March 6 through the end of the school year on June 5.

The successful candidate will be contracted to work from 7:45 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. Monday through

Friday.
