Moravian Academy is Hiring a Short Term School Counselor Near Bethlehem, PA

Moravian Academy is seeking a School Counselor for the Merle Smith Campus for the remainder of the 2023-2024 school year. This is a short term assignment that will end effective May 31, 2024.

Position Description:

The Upper School Counselor will serve as a prominent member of the division’s administrative team in order to build and maintain optimal student health and wellness. In addition to providing direct support and interventions for students, they will advise school leaders regarding school-wide practices, work individually with faculty members and families to support student health plans, and design and deliver holistic, proactive wellness and character education programming for students in grades 9-12.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Promotes and supports initiatives that further the integration of social and emotional learning in the Upper School.
  • Serves as a member of the Campus Leadership Team (CLT), ,Upper School Student Support Team (SST), and Safety and Security Team.
  • Counsel students in Grades 9-12, using solution-focused and person-centered approaches, to address issues such as academic performance, social skills, self-esteem, and attendance.
  • Work with students to develop realistic, strength-based goals.
  • Build and maintain relationships with families to coordinate care between school and home.
  • Remain universally accessible and make an effort to know every student for whom they are responsible; accepting referrals from all relevant stakeholders.
  • Serves as a guide, coach, resource, and facilitator for the professional learning of faculty and staff in the US regarding a holistic understanding of the student experience (particularly social and emotional learning), including the facilitation of professional learning sessions such as faculty meetings.
  • Works closely with students from underrepresented populations and serves as a facilitator of workshops/meetings centered on diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Executes collaborative risk assessments based on best professional practices.
  • Serves on the upper school admissions committee, as needed.
  • Leads small faculty meetings in support of student wellbeing and success.
  • Develops strong relationships with external health professionals to ensure students are connected with external resources when appropriate.
  • Serves as liaison with state child welfare agencies or law enforcement when on campus, providing support and advocacy during reporting and interview processes.

Qualifications

  • Prospective candidates will have earned a Master’s degree or Doctoral degree in psychology, education, counseling, or a related field, and have a demonstrated record of personal learning.
  • Five or more years of significant work in school counseling in a setting similar to Moravian Academy (an independent, co-ed, P-12, college preparatory school).
  • Experience working with upper school students.
  • Training and experience in a recognized method of culturally responsive facilitation for a diverse community of learners.
