POSITION SUMMARY
The Quality Assurance Inspector is responsible for managing the AISC quality certification for all Cooper Steel shops while also acting as a resource for the Quality team and shop employees. This position is also responsible for building relationships with our sub-fabricators and ensuring they meet all required quality standards.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
Promote a strong quality culture throughout the company maintaining Cooper Steel's core priorities: Safety, Quality, Production
Manage AISC Quality Certification audits at all three of our shop locations: Shelbyville, TN, Lynchburg, VA and Childersburg, AL
Schedule and conduct internal quality audit meetings as required by AISC
Manage all fabrication non-conformance reports; including comprehensive logs, investigation process and corrective action reports as required
Evaluate new sub-fabrication shops for capacity, capability, and quality
Make follow-up visits to sub-fabricators for visual inspections while they are performing work for Cooper Steel
Visit Cooper Steel shops and develop positive working relationships with all employees (day and night shift)
Schedule and perform fabrication, welding, and paint training for Cooper Steel shops semi-annually
Act as a resource for Cooper Steel's quality control inspectors and plant managers at each plant
Work with Cooper Steel shops and sub-contractors to ensure our product meets Cooper Steel Quality Standards
Understand the content and application of AWS D1.1 Structural Welding Code
Work in observance of OSHA and NIOSH safety standards
Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
High School Diploma or equivalent
2 -5 years prior experience in a similar role
Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) required
OTHER SKILLS
Strong functional and technical skills; ability to communicate effectively with a diverse range of individuals; good judgment; strong attention to detail; ability to work effectively with others. While performing certain duties of the job, the employee is required to stand, stoop, bend, twist, lift, pull, and reach. Use of hands for gripping and grasping required. Specific vision abilities are required. Lifting is required up to 75 lbs. Must be flexible in hours worked and willing to work overtime.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Position performs work mostly in the Shop setting which includes a variety of working conditions. These include the following conditions: noise level fluctuations from moderate to high, use of personal protective equipment, machine/equipment use. Position involves everyday risks or exposure to elements that require safety precautions. Position may be required to work in adverse weather conditions such as heat, humidity, cold, precipitation, etc. Travel to other fabrication shops is required.
