The program days are Monday through Thursday.
An additional 2 hours of staff development and preparation are required and will occur on Monday, June 24th, 2024. First preference for hiring will be given to applicants who can commit to both sessions (16 program days plus one additional professional development/ preparation day)..HOURS: 4.5 hours: 7:45 am -12:15 pm (*Hours could vary depending on site.) for 16 days and 7:30 am to 12:30 pm (5 hours) for one professional day on Monday, June 24th, 2024.School-based Program hours are 8AM-12PM. (*Start times may vary depending on the site.)PROGRAM DESCRIPTIONSPreschool: These programs are for students with developmental delays, autism and/or multiple disabilities whose IEP Teams have identified the need for an extended year component to prevent substantial regression. They offer project-based learning opportunities that incorporate the content standards in English Language Arts and Mathematics that are developmentally appropriate and based on individual abilities.
Students will participate in therapy and structured play groups to promote language skills, motor skills, and social skills. Students will receive specialized instruction and modifications as identified in their IEPs.Elementary Life Skills/ Autism Life Skills: These programs are for students with intellectual disabilities whose IEP Teams have identified the need for an extended year component to prevent substantial regression. They offer project-based learning opportunities that incorporate the content standards in English Language Arts and Mathematics that are developmentally appropriate and based on individual abilities. Students will participate in therapy groups (speech, OT, PT, counseling, etc.), structured play groups to promote social skills, and receive specialized instruction and modifications as identified in their IEPs.Elementary SAIL: These programs are for students along the autism spectrum whose IEP Teams have identified the need for an extended year component to prevent substantial regression.
They offer project-based learning opportunities that incorporate the content standards in English Language Arts and Mathematics that are developmentally appropriate and are based on individual abilities. Students will participate in therapy groups (speech, OT, PT, counseling, etc.), structured play groups to promote social skills. Students will receive specialized instruction and modifications as identified in their IEPs. In addition, students may receive individualized ABA services.LAB Program: The Worcester Public Schools (WPS) Special Education Extended Year Programs provide educational services to students in kindergarten through grade twelve.
Students who require an extended year per their Individualized Education Program (IEP) are identified through the Special Education Team process. The Learning Disabilities teacher is certified or trained in two or more Language-based programs (ie. Wilson Reading System, Orton Gillingham, Lindamood Bell Programs, Project Read programs) and is proficient in the use of teaching principles such as modeling of language-based strategies; explicit, structured multisensory approaches, instruction using hands-on materials and assistive technology. The Learning Disabilities teacher provides services to students who have been identified with a Specific Learning Disability (SLD) through the Team Process.
These SLDs may be in the areas of reading, math, written language, organization, and/or test-taking strategies. Students who attend the LD Summer Program will receive services in an individualized and/or small group session. Secondary Life Skills: These programs are for students with significant disabilities whose IEP Teams have identified the need for an extended year component to prevent substantial regression, who will be entering grades 7-12. These programs address communication, social and daily living skills with integrated therapies as identified on the IEP.
These programs provide functional academics and work skills that are appropriate to each students learning abilities.Secondary COAST: These programs are for students along the autism spectrum whose IEP Teams have identified the need for an extended component to prevent substantial regression, who will be entering grades 7-12. These programs address communication, social and daily living skills with integrated therapies as identified on the IEP. These programs provide functional academics and work skills that are appropriate to the students learning abilities. Students may also receive individualized ABA services.Transition: These programs are for students with disabilities whose IEP Teams have identified the need for an extended year program with a focus on transitions.
Programs for students are individualized and include community-based learning, career development, and post-secondary education.PLEASE NOTE: Applicants must be willing and able to assist students with personal and physical needs.JOB RESPONSIBILITIES1. Responsible for assisting the classroom teacher by reviewing, correcting and reinforcing lessons with individual and small groups of students in all content areas and other activities as defined in the students IEP. 2. Responsible for assisting in the preparation and inventory of instructional materials and the setting up, operating, and maintaining of various classroom learning aids and equipment.
3. Responsible for supporting student physical and personal care needs, such as assisting in lavatory routines, toileting, diapering, lifting, etc.. 4. Responsible for supervising breakfast and/or lunch periods, assemblies and cleaning up of work areas.5.
Responsible for assisting the classroom teacher in clerical work which may include, but it is not limited to, recording daily attendance, cataloging and filing instructional materials. 6. Responsible for participating and contributing to weekly, monthly and long-range planning with the classroom teacher for instructional activities.7. Responsible for assisting the classroom teacher during the workday in maintaining open communication.
The teacher and/or administrator supervise all oral and written communication. 8. Responsible for maintaining student confidentiality. 9.
Responsible for supervising and supporting children in both structured and unstructured activities and across environments throughout the day. 10. Responsible for contributing to a warm and open atmosphere so that all students can grow and develop to their fullest potential.11. Responsible for serving as the guiding source of information and assisting any substitute teacher assigned in the teacher's absence.
12. Responsible for implementing district and school-wide rules, policies and procedures and individual student behavior plans. 13. Responsible for adhering to all testing protocols for students with disabilities, including formal and informal testing's.
Responsible for participating in related PD specific to administering assessments and accommodations.14. Responsible for performing duties associated with specialty areas. This may include instructional assistants assigned to special projects, including grant programs, that require specialized training and duties.15. Responsible for performing duty work (lunch, recess, line, bus) when required to do so by the ESY Site Administrator.
It is understood that duty assignments will be distributed on an equitable basis. 16. Responsible for the performance of other job-related duties as assigned. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 1.
First preference is given to Special Education staff who work with similar students in the same programs during the school year.2. Second preference to staff with experience working with students with disabilities.3. Experience with programming services for students placed in the following specialized programs: SAIL/ COAST/ Life Skills /STEP programs.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Experience and/or comprehensive training regarding second language acquisition.2.
Ability to speak Albanian, Arabic, Nepali, Portuguese, Spanish, Vietnamese or an African Language. SALARY: The contractual rate for the 16 days the program is in session and the professional development date is required.
