Cortina Solutions is seeking an Environmental Disposal Liabilities Specialist in Huntsville, AL. The Environmental and Disposal Liabilities (EDL) Program encompasses a range of activities and strategies to manage environmental liabilities effectively. Environmental and Disposal Liability is a probable, measurable and reasonably estimable future outflow or expenditure of resources that exist as of the financial reporting date for environmental cleanup costs resulting from past transactions or events. It is an anticipated future outflow or other sacrifice of resources where, based on the results of due care, further study or cleanup is warranted due to past or current operations that have contaminated the Department assets. Federal agencies are required to recognize liability when a future outflow or other sacrifice of resources because of past transactions or events is “probable” and “reasonably estimable”.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

• Support the Environmental and Disposal Liabilities (EDL) accounting and audits through range of activities and strategies to manage environmental liabilities effectively.
• Identify and assess:
  • Financial Planning
  • Compliance with Regulations
  • Remediation and Cleanup
  • Monitoring and Reporting
  • Risk Management.
• Work with the owning agency to ensure that potential liabilities are properly accounted for, risks are minimized, and responsible actions are taken to address environmental concerns.

Requirements:

• BS in Accounting, Finance or related field.
• Experience working in Real Property Environmental and Disposal Liabilities (recording or reporting).
• Environmental remediation liability experience.
• Experience with the Army Working Capital Fund (AWCF).
• Audit readiness experience preferably within the plant, property, and equipment area.
• Experience in Army logistics, supplies, inventory, real property, PP&E, environmental disposal liabilities.
• Experience supporting audit readiness, audit remediation, internal controls, financial processes, and/or accounting.
• End-to-end walkthroughs of business processes, documenting business processes and controls, testing the design and operating effectiveness of internal controls, and reporting on deficiencies.
• Excellent written communication, interpersonal, problem-solving, analytical, mathematical, and organizational skills.
• Ability to effectively manage competing priorities is a must. Applicants must be able to work well alone and as part of a team.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
