The purpose of the position is to provide first line support to a work group or unit completing operational construction or maintenance activities. This is accomplished by planning and organizing jobs; overseeing maintenance and repairs; coordinating projects between departments; and maintaining records of work performed. Other duties may include training; and enforcing safety regulations.
Works as lead for a unit or group by assigning work unit tasks; scheduling equipment and services; overseeing the maintenance and repair of equipment; ensuring all safety practices are followed; and resolving unexpected problems;
Schedules and assigns activities by reviewing and scheduling priorities; reviewing, recording, and filing work orders; and referring jobs for contract work;
Facilitates a safe work environment by scheduling and attending trainings; scheduling safety meetings; ensuring safety equipment and risk practices are followed; and filing claims;
Assists unit or group with tasks by repairing concrete and asphalt; removing trees; repairing drainage conditions; and evaluating street, drainage, and right-of-way conditions;
Maintains records by entering work information; recording maintenance activities; and tracking job costs; and
Performs other assigned duties.
High school diploma or equivalent;
Or equivalent training, education, and /or experience; and
Valid Texas Class A or Class B Driver's License.
Must reside within a 30-minute response time
Knowledge of City policies and procedures;
Knowledge of methods, materials and techniques used in the construction and/or maintenance of water and wastewater systems;
Knowledge of standard safety processes, work gear, and procedures;
Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite;
Skill in communicating effectively both orally and in writing;
Ability to work flexible hours, including some nights and weekends;
Ability to operate heavy equipment such as front-end loaders; backhoes; skid steers and dump trucks;
Ability to operate medium equipment such as chainsaws; concrete saws; and handsaws; and
Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with City administration, other employees, and the general public.
