The purpose of this position is to supervise the maintenance of the City's financial records and be financial reporting processes. This is accomplished by assisting with the preparation of the comprehensive annual financial report; providing oversight and supervision to general or specialized accounting functions; reviewing and recording transactions; ensuring compliance with accounting standards; directing staff functions; reconciling accounts; analyzing financial information; and preparing financial reports. Other duties include coordinating the annual audit and coordinating the budget process.
 

• Coordinates the budget process by developing documents and work papers; coordinating efforts with departments; managing deadlines; entering and reviewing data; and ensuring compliance.
• Supervises processes by reviewing and analyzing entries and reports; monitoring revenues and expenditures; reviewing documents; scheduling deadlines; interpreting and reviewing data; and monitoring compliance with reporting and expenditures.
• Manages programs and audits by coordinating document preparation and submission; reviewing reports and related information; gathering and disseminating budget information; preparing documents and financial reports; recommending system and program improvements; and representing the department to boards and commissions.
• Supervises staff by scheduling and assigning tasks; establishing goals and objectives; assigning priorities and responsibilities; reviewing performance; and participating in the hiring process.

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field 

• Five years of experience as an accountant in a governmental organization, preferably a municipality, three of which must include supervision of professional staff
• Valid CPA, CGFO, CIA certification preferred

• Knowledge of generally accepted accounting practices and principles
• Knowledge of budgeting practices and principles
• Ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing, with co-workers, the public, and elected and appointed officials
• Ability to read, analyze and interpret complex materials, budgets and related documents
• Skill in the operation and use of standard office software which includes databases and presentation programs, along with standard Microsoft products
