Position Title : School Psychologist, Special Education

Multiple 1.0 FTE Assignments : Various locations across Dakota County, MN supporting the he Students with Unique Needs (SUN) Program, Transitional Ed Service Alternative Program (TESA) Program

Hours per Day : 8.0

Schedule : 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, following the assigned school calendar

Anticipated Start Date : August 20, 2024

Contract Length : 2024 - 2025 school year, continuing contract

Salary: Placement per the teacher contract, based on education and experience
POSITION OVERVIEW :

Under the supervision of the Assistant Director/Principal, the School Psychologist for Intermediate School District 917's Special Education programs plays a vital role in evaluating and diagnosing students, conducting consultations, assessing and interpreting intellectual, social and/or emotional development, and related work as apparent or assigned. Professionalism, empathy, and a non-judgmental approach are essential when working with students receiving special education services to ensure their safety and growth and in order to help them understand and exhibit appropriate behaviors at school and in the community. The School Psychologist will be stepping into a team environment daily, where collaboration, communication, and adaptability are key to the success of the individual, the team, and the success of the students. This role is performed following District policy and State/Federal Laws.
RESPONSIBILITIES :
  • Conduct educational evaluations for students receiving special education services.
  • Consult with educational staff regarding behavior, social skills, and academic interventions and communicate and collaborate with evaluation team members.
  • Participate in team meetings as appropriate.
  • Work directly with students and IEP teams to support social, academic, and behavioral skills.
  • Gather and interpret data; write reports and evaluation results; Create and maintain applicable records, files, and reports pertaining to training, services provided and assessments.
  • Support the development and implementation of individualized education plans and programming for students in accordance with district practice and state and federal requirements.
  • Provide training and assistance with initiatives.
  • Comply with School Board policies and administrative practices, including those procedures outlined in the staff and student handbooks.
  • Help to maintain safety of all students and the environment.
  • Use flexible thinking and adaptability to address student needs and responds calmly during crisis situations, when necessary.
  • Contribute to a growing team and the continued development of the role of school psychologist; Attend workshops; keeps abreast of current literature and studies.
QUALIFICATIONS :
  1. MN licensure as a school psychologist.
  2. Master's degree in Educational Psychology or a related field.
  3. Valid driver's license.
  4. Willingness and ability to work with students receiving a high-level of special education services.
  5. Skills in completing due process paperwork and communicating with parents and other team members.
  6. Efficient organization and time management skills.
  7. Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication with staff, students, and parents that is maintained during high-stress and crisis situations.
  8. Basic computer and email skills.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :
  1. Regularly requires sitting, speaking and hearing, and repetitive motions.
  2. Occasionally requires standing, and walking and lifting.
  3. Work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data and observing general surroundings and activities.
  4. Locations are generally quiet.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION :
  • Opportunity to gain experience with low incidence student populations and work with specialized staff.
  • Stipend for National Certification (NCSP).
