This posting is for a part-time instructor at Fort Loramie High School. The instructor will be responsible for Upper Valley Career Center’s Project Lead the Way (PLTW) Engineering courses taught at Fort Loramie Junior/Senior High School and will provide instructional activities that are consistent with the objectives of the program. The instructor will prepare and conduct lessons for courses from the Engineering pathway as identified in the state of Ohio content standards. Part-time instruction will consist of 3-4 class periods daily. The time of day in which the courses will be delivered is flexible depending on the needs of the selected candidate. Individuals holding a 7-12 High School Mathematics, Science, or Industrial Technology teaching license or hold or qualify for 4-12 Career Technical Education license in Engineering are eligible to teach PLTW courses after completing PLTW training.

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Instruct classroom and laboratory classes according to the PLTW standards
  • Design and implement real-world applications for the students
  • Demonstrate knowledge of content, pedagogy and knowledge of students’ competencies
  • Organize classroom and/or lab in a manner which is conductive to learning
  • Plan and manage allocated budget for daily operations
  • Follow District Advisory Committee procedures
  • Maintain positive classroom management by setting and communicating high, consistent expectations for learning and achievement
  • Remain current with industry needs and remain updated with current technology and industry trends
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Must meet all the requirements governing teacher education and licensure
  • Must hold Ohio Department of Education 7-12 High School Mathematics, Science, or Industrial Technology teaching license or hold or qualify for 4-12 Career Technical Education license in Engineering Technology which would include 5 years of experience in industry.
  • Engineering background or experience in Project Lead the Way Design and Modeling and Engineering Essentials Preferred
  • The instructor must be a strong team leader, possess excellent human relations skills and serve as a role model for students
  • Meets all mandated health screening requirements.
  • Maintains a record free of criminal violations that would prohibit public school employment. Able to successfully pass a BCI/FBI background check.
  • Maintains compliance with drug-free workplace rules, Board policies, and other applicable procedures/guidelines.

Salary:

Appropriate placement on the Certificated Salary Schedule to be determined by education and experience. Maximum 839 hours per year. One-year contract with opportunity for renewal.

Other Benefits:

State Teachers Retirement System and Worker’s Compensation. Upon hire, additional benefits may be offered depending upon hours worked, job classification, and placement on the Upper Valley Career Center Salary Schedule. Some benefits are a shared cost between the employee and the Board of Education.

Performance Evaluation:

Job performance is evaluated according to policy provisions and contractual agreements adopted by the Upper Valley Career Center.

The Upper Valley Career Center provides career and technical education for high school students and post-secondary education for adults. Over 800 high school juniors and seniors are gaining skills in 27 career fields. High school students earn a diploma from their home/associate school.
