The Position
Kaufman, Hall & Associates, LLC, is seeking a Vice President who will be a significant contributor to our non-labor competency within Kaufman Hall’s Performance Improvement practice. The position demands a strong non-labor background and experiencing leading supply chain initiatives. In short order, the successful candidate will be expected to lead non-labor client engagements with minimal oversight. The Vice President will be fully capable of presenting to senior management teams and boards and be able to drive the organization to decisions around critical issues, simultaneously managing multiple client engagements with a variety of staff. The ideal candidate will possess a strong ability to collaborate with and facilitate supply chain discussions among providers across the care spectrum, including physicians, nurses, and other allied providers. The Vice President is expected to develop new business opportunities and create cross selling opportunities for Kaufman Hall’s other practices.
The essential functions of the position are:
  • Works with client and KH teams to assess and implement supply chain improvement and savings opportunities focused on non-labor expense in the hospital environment.
  • Promotes collaboration with clinical leadership to facilitate clinical procurement decision-making in an effective and efficient manner
  • Develop supply chain goals and objectives for the client engagement
  • Establishes strategy for the clinical cost management consistent with Supply Chain goal and objectives
  • Utilizes benchmarking to evaluate effectiveness of product prices
  • Monitors and interprets relevant cost metrics
  • Supports data-driven, clinically-lead value analysis processes
  • Simultaneously manages several projects without compromising quality and effectiveness of Supply Chain strategy
  • Investigates, develops and prepares analysis and feasibility studies related to evaluation topics
  • Professionally presents these topics to those within and outside healthcare organization
  • Responds to inquiries from faculty, medical staff, students, outside agencies; including vendors, requiring interpretation and explanation of medical supply policies and procedures or clinical outcomes
  • Provides education to other consultants regarding clinical supply chain consulting principles and tactics
  • Routinely provides project management as assigned
  • Completes analyses, documentation, presentations and reports as assigned
  • Builds relationships and engages in activity designed to generate qualified leads 
  • Develop project budgets and engagement staffing requirements
  • Mentors and coaches new staff as assigned
  • Strong quantitative and qualitative analytical skills
  • Flexibility and responsiveness in managing multiple projects in sometimes high-pressure situations simultaneously
  • Self-motivator with ability to work independently
  • Plan, direct, and coordinate work activities of others
Qualifications
  • Demonstrating a detailed understanding of the health care industry (including historic and contemporary issues pertaining to providers, payment and policy, demonstrated financial and analytical competencies) with the ability to communicate complicated concepts to a variety of clients
  • Minimum 7-10 years progressively more responsible direct supervisory experience in a Nursing, other clinically related settings, as well as experience in non-clinical areas
  • Previous consulting experience preferred
  • Sound knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
  • Demonstrated ability to work in challenging situations
  • Demonstrated ability to leading successful teams, and manage conflict. Ability to complete projects on tight time-lines in accordance with established budgets with attention to detail and follow through
  • Consistent high quality engagement delivery
  • Excellent communication (both written and oral)
  • Effective communication skills and demonstrates leadership with physicians, clinicians, administrators, colleagues and fellow Supply Chain staff
  • Frequently communicates with clients and coworkers and must be able to share information effectively
  • Applicants for employment must have work authorization that does not now or in the future require sponsorship of a visa for employment authorization in the United States and with Kaufman Hall (i.e., H1-B visa, F-1 visa (OPT), TN visa or any other non-immigrant status)
Education
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree highly preferred
Physical Requirements 
  • Must be able to perform essential duties satisfactorily with reasonable accommodations
  • Work is generally done sitting, talking, hearing and typing. Visual acuity to use a keyboard, prepare and analyze data and figures; transcribing, viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading
Work Environment 
  • Travel Required: 75% or more
  • The role is remotely based
  • Work is regularly performed in a combination of office, home office, and client settings, and routinely uses standard office equipment
  • It may require the maintenance of a home office and proximity to an airport for work related travel
