Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell is looking for a motivated and skilled individual to join her team as a Paralegal in the Office of the Attorney General's Energy & Ratepayer Advocacy Division (ERA). ERA is looking for a qualified candidate who can begin work in July 2024 or later.
Pursuant to G.L. c. 12, ยง 11E, ERA advocates on behalf of the customers of Massachusetts' electric, gas, and water companies. ERA's mission includes holding utilities accountable for providing just and reasonable rates; advocating for a smart, cost-effective, and equitable clean energy transition; and protecting consumers from predatory energy companies.
Duties and Responsibilities: A Paralegal assigned to the Energy & Ratepayer Advocacy Division provides administrative and paralegal support to the Division's legal and technical staff in all phases of litigating cases before the Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities, Massachusetts Department of Telecommunications and Cable, Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), and other judicial and administrative bodies.
Responsibilities may include reviewing and organizing paper and electronic documents and case files; preparing and filing legal documents with the courts and administrative regulatory bodies according to established procedures; tracking and organizing discovery responses; preparing case documents for hearings (e.g., preparing trial exhibits and notebooks); entry and maintenance of case files in the case management system; storing electronic case documents for easy access and retrieval; legal and factual research and writing; systematically storing and archiving inactive and closed case files; providing general office assistance; assisting with special projects, and other duties, as required.
Position Type: Full-Time/Non-Exempt
Salary: $50,245

Job Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree and paralegal or legal assistant experience preferred. Candidates must have an in-depth understanding of Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Excel, and Outlook. Knowledge of Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft SharePoint, and Summation preferred. Candidates must possess organizational, analytical, writing, and communication skills; the ability to organize and analyze documents; and attention to detail. Applicants must understand the importance of working as part of a team and should possess effective time management skills. Experience or interest in law, energy, and/or working in the public interest is also a plus. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a connection to the people and communities we serve and an interest in supporting a respectful, diverse, equitable, and inclusive work environment.
