Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell is looking for a highly motivated litigation attorney to join her team as an Assistant Attorney General in her Energy & Ratepayer Advocacy Division (ERA).
Pursuant to G.L. c. 12, § 11E, ERA advocates on behalf of the customers of Massachusetts' electric, gas, and water companies. ERA's mission includes holding utilities accountable for providing just and reasonable rates; advocating for a smart, cost-effective, and equitable clean energy transition; and protecting consumers from predatory energy companies.
Primary Duties: The Assistant Attorney General will be responsible for performing legal work for ERA, which includes serving as lead or co-counsel in litigation before the Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, and federal and state courts; preparing briefs and other associated litigation and regulatory documents; conducting in-depth analysis and preparing legal memoranda regarding energy, water, or other regulatory-related topics; hiring and working with subject matter experts; interpreting laws and regulations; providing legal advice; strategizing and developing case-related action plans; and investigating and prosecuting civil energy enforcement cases.
Position Type: Full-Time/Exempt
Salary: $78,586 to $117,879, based upon J.D. year and experience.

Job Qualifications:
Successful applicants should have at least one of the following qualifications: (1) at least two years of civil or criminal litigation experience; (2) at least one year of experience in connection with the regulation of gas, electric, and/or water companies; or (3) at least one year of other regulatory or administrative law experience analogous to ETD's work. Additional years of experience in any of the aforementioned practice areas and experience in complex litigation is desirable. The position requires an aptitude for litigation of both policy and technical issues with emphasis on those involving economic, financial, and accounting issues. A demonstrated ability to learn previously unfamiliar technical concepts and material quickly and successfully is preferred. Strong research, writing, editing, and oral communication skills are required, as is the ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a connection to the people and communities we serve and an interest in supporting a respectful, diverse, equitable, and inclusive work environment. Must be admitted to the Massachusetts Bar.
