Responsibilities

The Medical Dosimetrist is a member of the radiation oncology team. The medical dosimetrist is responsible for patient data acquisition, radiation treatment design, and manual and computer-assisted calculations of radiation dose distributions. In consultation with the radiation oncologist and medical physicist, the medical dosimetrist generates and documents the chosen treatment plan for each patient, upon the radiation oncologist final approval. The medical dosimetrist, under the direct supervision of the medical physicist and radiation oncologist may also assist with various aspects of the treatment planning and Quality Assurance program. The medical dosimetrist will report to the radiation oncology medical physicist on clinical treatment matters and to the on-site administrator for all other matters.

The compensation range for the role is $51.11 - $63.89 hourly. 

Garnet Health System provides a compensation range to comply with the New York State law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits. When determining a team member’s compensation and/or rate, several factors may be considered as applicable (e.g., location, specialty, service line, years of relevant experience, education, credentials, negotiated contracts, budget and internal equity).

Qualifications

Minimum Education: A graduate of formal university, college, or hospital-based Dosimetry program of nine months duration or longer, and a year of practical supervised experiences
(For a total of 24 months’ duration).

Minimum Experience: Certified Medical Dosimetrist (CMD) certificate and a college degree preferred with a minimum of two years as a staff working medical dosimetrist.

Required Certification/Registration: A degree in the physical or biological sciences with on the job training in dosimetry for 12 months under the supervision of a Medical Dosimetrist, Medical Physicist, and Radiation Oncologist, and one additional year practical, supervised experience in radiation therapy dosimetry.

Physical Demands: Sits a considerable part of the day. Considerable mental, and visual
demands. Considerable mental strength required. Must be alert, in control
of equipment.

Working Conditions: Exposure to radiation and communicable disease.
