Position Overview
SmartBiz is seeking a Credit Analyst who will support SmartBiz's Funding Operations team in evaluating the financial health of a SBA loan applicant to determine whether to approve their application. Critical to this role is an understanding of credit, strong financial acumen, the ability to critically analyze and assess information and work closely with Funding Operations team members to build out the credit story of the small business applicant.
We're seeking a new teammate who has a high level of intrinsic motivation, is extremely detail-oriented and organized, is eager to use their financial analysis skills, and enjoys working effectively with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced financial technology environment.
How You Will Make An Impact:
  • Quickly and accurately analyze financial statements (business and personal tax returns, income statements, balance sheets, bank statements, credit reports, ..) to determine the creditworthiness of small businesses
  • Build a deep understanding of our credit policies and credit culture
  • Verify accuracy and consistency of details provided on the customer's application and documentation
  • Ensure compliance with the SBA underwriting and eligibility guidelines
  • Provide training of new Relationship Managers and ongoing training of the existing Funding Operations team to ensure their understanding of credit, underwriting, and general eligibility
  • Review and provide support on complex credit and loan structures to help Relationship Managers appropriately underwrite and package loan applications
  • Enforce quality control of files and integrity under bank and regulatory criteria
  • Form a strong working relationship with the Relationship Managers internally and credit teams externally at partner banks
  • Continually assess and improve credit and compliance-related processes
  • Perform required monitoring of existing loan portfolio performance
Who You Are:
  • 2 years of experience in financial services
  • Strong knowledge of commercial banking underwriting, SBA small loan underwriting is a plus
  • Exceptional oral & written communication skills
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field
  • Experience with Salesforce is a plus
