OVERVIEW OF POSITION: The Membership Specialist is responsible to recruit, engage, and retain girl and adult members through the Service Unit structure in assigned geographical areas. This position engages various stakeholders (prospective customers, businesses, community leaders, etc.) within the community to market and sell the Girl Scout experience.

● Development and maintenance of positive internal and external customer relationships
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: This list is not meant to be exhaustive of all tasks and responsibilities. Other duties may be assigned as needed or may be unique to a specific instance of a job.
Accountability Area and Responsibility
Lead volunteer team (s) to support membership growth within the Service Unit structure
● Ensure Service Unit teams recruit, engage, and retain girl members to achieve annual membership goals.
● Ensure volunteers/troop leaders are receiving the support they need to deliver a quality Girl Scout Leadership Experience through training ● Assigned Service Units adhere to the blueprint for successful Service Units.
● Establish the appropriate volunteer support team to meet SU membership goals by recruiting, selecting, appointing, training, evaluating, and supervising Service Unit volunteers.
●Accountable for ensuring each Service Unit team has the resources to achieve their goals.
● Serve as the main point of contact for Service Unit volunteers and act as a liaison to distribute key Service Unit information to Council staff and to guide volunteers to additional services and resources.
● Assist in achieving Council’s membership goals by development, coordination, and delivery of quality events (Celebrate, Leader Symposiums, and Volunteer Appreciation), training, early bird incentive plans, and resources.
Support the council’s volunteer management system
● Assist with recruitment of volunteer trainers.
● Ensure that new troop leaders have easy access to training and ongoing support.
● Continuous review of troop leader training and support at the Service Unit level for effectiveness and relevance.
Provide ongoing support, supervision and direction to service unit volunteers in assigned geographic area(s)
● Direct volunteers to additional support services as necessary.
● Provide support and follow-up with volunteers as requested; identify the need for and provide problem solving and conflict resolution when appropriate and in a timely manner.
● Optimize the use of technology including Salesforce, Looker, and Personify to support customer service to volunteers.
● Prepare regular monthly membership reports and status to STAR to assist the Service Unit team in meeting their goals and objectives.
Skills and Education Required:
● Bachelor’s degree preferred
● 1 years of professional experience to include:
o Volunteer Relations – understands the functions of volunteers; demonstrates flexibility to meet with volunteers; effectively delegates responsibility; monitors use of volunteers within existing constraints and guidelines; recognizes volunteer accomplishments; works effectively with volunteers.
o Volunteer Management – knows the procedures, tools, and legal issues associated with recruiting, selecting, supervising, and releasing adult volunteers; assigns and manages volunteers in an efficient manner, monitors use of volunteers; recognizes volunteer accomplishments.
● Technical computer skills in Google G Suite for documents, spreadsheets, and presentations, customer relationship management systems, and social networking. Must be able to learn, understand, and apply new technologies with ability to understand basic data quality principles and practices.

Physical Requirements:
​For office-based positions, the general physical expectations are that:
● Individuals will be able to read materials and respond in writing or verbally.
● Individuals will actively participate in meetings in person or over the phone.
● Individuals will be able to operate a computer keyboard, calculator, copier machine, and other office equipment.
● Individuals will primarily perform tasks at a sitting desk. Individuals will move around the office as needed to gather files, attend meetings, etc Reasonable accommodations will be provided as needed.
Other Expectations:
● Will spend ~25% of time outside of the office so reliable transportation is required
● Work predominantly performed during evenings and weekends
