OVERVIEW OF POSITION: The Troop Support Specialist oversees first year troop leaders and leaders moving to a new program level. The Troop Support Specialist is the lead representative for new troop leaders and bridging troop leaders; acting as their contact; coaching the volunteers on best practices for troop management, meeting planning, and creating a quality Girl Scout experience. This position reports to the Sr. Director, Membership Services and works with team to ensure retention efforts are completed for overall council retention.

● Facilitates support to new leaders
● Facilitates support to troop leaders preparing to bridge into a new Girl Scout program level to ensure a smooth transition.
● Ensures membership retention activities are completed in order to achieve council’s retention goals.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Support new leader
Membership retention

● Works with new troop leaders to ensure they are supported once registered with regularly scheduled check-ins especially at peak times
of year, such as beginning of the cookie program and prior to end of school year.
● Actively partners with Membership Specialists to help facilitate the formation of new troops and the placement of Girl Scouts and volunteers.
● Ensures new leaders are prepared and hold parent meetings.
● Ensure new leaders are connected to the Service Unit team for SU Introduction training and coaching.
● Works with Training Specialist to educate new leaders on Girl Scout policies and best practices.
● Works with Sr. Director to update and ensures distribution of resources for first year volunteers.
● Provides excellent volunteer support and follow up to leaders by problem solving and responding appropriately to all inquiries.
● Maintains expertise in GSUSA’s Volunteer Toolkit system.
Support membership retention
● Ensure membership retention activities are completed on time to achieve Girl Scout and volunteer member goal numbers.
● Works with troop leaders as they bridge levels with scheduled check-ins.
● Promote program events and workshops that are relevant to bridging troops.
● Check in on all other leaders twice a year
Other Duties (general that apply to all):

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree preferred
Experience:
Volunteer Relations – understand the functions of volunteers; demonstrates flexibility to meet with volunteers; works effectively with volunteers.
Skills:
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, databases, and web-browsing software.
  • Ability to quickly learn new software applications as necessary.
  • Ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing.
  • Capacity to work, independently and as part of a team
  • Plan, organize and prioritize work while managing deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to speak passionately and with conviction about the Girl Scout Mission and its importance.
  • Ability to create and nurture relationships with volunteers.
  • Able to engage in troubleshooting, problem solving, service recovery, and conflict resolution.
Physical Qualifications:
Ability to lift 30 pounds
Other:
Flexibility to shift work hours as needed, including evenings and weekends.
A valid driver's license, current insurance, and access to a reliable vehicle are required for travel between council properties and across the entire service area as needed.
Become a registered member of Girl Scouts and maintain membership for the duration of employment.
The job is primarily performed remotely, employees will need to attend meetings, training, or work events that may be held in any of our locations, others throughout council jurisdiction, or virtually.
