Our innovative platform uses the most recent advances in computational protein design and engineering to create highly modular biosensing nano-switches. Our technology enables rapid, sensitive, and inexpensive analytical assays: our visionary founding team and state-of-the-art technology position Monod Bio at the forefront of biosensor innovation.

We're seeking a Research Associate in Molecular Biology who comes with a strong foundation in molecular biology and protein biochemistry. In this position, you'll support our Protein Design and protein optimization endeavors by establishing and optimizing advanced DNA assembly schemes and protein mutagenesis libraries.

Among other things, in this position you will:

  • Establish a high-throughput pipeline of DNA assembly from synthetic gene fragments: Golden Gate and Gibson.
  • Establish liquid handling automation processes to streamline DNA assembly.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in designing and constructing prokaryotic expression vectors, as well as eukaryotic vectors for yeast and mammalian systems.
  • Utilize in-depth knowledge of DNA purification and preparation techniques to ensure high-quality DNA samples for downstream applications.
  • Proficiently execute a wide range of molecular biology techniques, including DNA manipulation, PCR amplification, cloning, and plasmid purification.
  • Design, implement, and troubleshoot directed and random mutagenesis experiments, creating diverse DNA libraries for various applications.
  • Contribute to experimental design and strategy development, leveraging a solid understanding of molecular biology principles and best practices.
  • Collaborate effectively within cross-functional teams, sharing insights, troubleshooting issues, and driving projects forward.
  • Maintain accurate and organized records of experimental procedures, protocols, and results for future reference and regulatory compliance (using Benchling as software).

Ideal qualifications we seek in a candidate:

  • Bachelor's degree in biochemistry, biophysics, analytical chemistry, biology, biotechnology, chemical engineering, or related fields.
  • PhD in molecular biology with research experience.
  • 3 years' experience in protein sciences, purification, and analysis in academia or industry.
  • Extensive experience with molecular biology techniques (DNA work, PCR, cloning and plasmid purification, Golden Gate and Gibson assembly).
  • Experience in constructing DNA libraries and sample preparation for DNA sequencing.
  • Experience with liquid handling automation.
  • Experience with expression vector design for prokaryotic and eukaryotic systems.
  • Expertise in transformation techniques for both prokaryotic (E. coli) and eukaryotic (yeast) systems, with a strong emphasis on yeast surface display library methodologies.
  • Experience with flow cytometry (staining panel development, sorting, data analysis in FlowJo).
  • Extensive experience with tracking data and recording results in electronic lab notebook format (Benchling)
  • Ability to summarize, analyze, and interpret moderately complex analytical data.
  • Ability to document studies and present results timely and clearly.
  • Detail-oriented and well-organized, with excellent communication skills capable of coordinating technical activities with minimal supervision.
  • Highly motivated and enjoy working in a multidisciplinary and fast-paced environment, both independently and in a team setting.

Physical environment and key requirements:

  • Ability to perform work in both an office and laboratory environment. Will be in proximity to BSL2 labs. Familiarity with biological and chemical hazard handling. Training and equipment will be provided as necessary.
  • Office mobility and the ability to stand for periods of time as needed is required.
  • Operations happen in moderately loud environments. PPE included by the company.
  • Mild odors from the manufacture of physical specimens and from laboratory work. The environment has been tested and proper engineering protections are in place.

We are proud to provide a generous benefits package and a healthy work culture:

  • Competitive salary plus bonus opportunity.
  • 100% company-paid medical, dental, life/AD&D, and vision insurance premiums for employees scheduled to work 25 hours per week. 50% paid premiums for eligible dependents.
  • 4 weeks PTO per year plus 11 paid holidays.
  • Parental leave benefit.
  • Annual compensation reviews.
  • State-of-the-art lab and office on bus line and near coffee shops, restaurants, and South Lake Union neighborhood.
  • Casual environment, friendly colleagues, and of course, excellent snacks in the kitchen!
