Description

The Community Impact Director, Meeting Basic Needs leads United Way of Southwestern PA’s work to create a path towards a financial sustainable and secure future. Working in collaboration with corporate and civic leaders, foundation leaders, service providers, and other United Way staff, the Director, Meeting Basic Needs shapes and manages a diverse portfolio of grants to agencies, community partnerships, engaged corporate leader initiatives, and community change and policy initiatives to achieve measurable success within the investment priority of Meeting Basic Needs. The Director will support and mentor a team of direct reports, work collaboratively across all United Way departments, have deep respect for diversity and a strong commitment to equity, and embody a creative and solutions-oriented approach.

Essential Functions

  • Lead and direct United Way’s work to help individuals and families meet their basic needs with a particular emphasis on working families, older adults, women, people with disabilities and veterans and their family members.
  • Build strong partnerships, collaborate with regional leaders, and engage key stakeholders, including partner agencies, to develop innovative strategies and investments to create meaningful community change.
  • Supervise Meeting Basic Needs manager to ensure that goals and objectives are met.
  • Develop and leverage opportunities to better address human service needs in Southwestern PA.
  • Work in tandem with Chief Program and Policy Officer to develop strategies to address gaps in services related to Meeting Basic Needs.

Aggregate and analyze statistical and service data outcomes to prepare funding proposals and reports on accomplishments.

  • Work closely with the United Way’s Donor Relations, Volunteer Initiatives and Marketing teams to clearly and respectfully convey community needs and effective solutions.
  • Identify opportunities to participate in community organizations, committees and councils that will lead to the realization of United Way’s Community Impact goals and increase community awareness of our work and brand.
  • Work with regional United Way directors and partners as needed to meet the regional expectations of initiatives and lead the expansion of projects to include the full United Way of Southwestern Pennsylvania footprint.
  • Meet regularly with the Impact Cabinet; prepare and present information, reports and recommendations to Impact Cabinet, board committees, and donors as appropriate.
  • Stay current and provide updates on food security, housing security, digital equity and other critical needs locally, statewide, and nationally, including programmatic trends, promising practices and public policy.
  • Steward donor and foundation dollars with transparency, effectiveness, efficiency and accountability.

Additional Functions

  • Advocate for issues pertaining to the Meeting Basic Needs Investment Priority to business leaders, elected officials, and other decision makers and stakeholders.

People Management Responsibilities

  • Support and mentor a team of direct reports (Community Impact Managers)

Financial/Budgetary Responsibilities

  • Work closely with other members of Community Impact Team to develop and execute the RFP process for allocation of funds for Meeting Basic Needs.
  • Create and monitor budgets for Meeting Basic Needs agency allocations, Community Change Collaboratives, and special programs.

Qualifications


Education and Experience

  • Required
    • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Preferred
    • Master’s Degree in non-profit management, public administration, social work, or the equivalent.

Annual Salary

  • Pay Grade 109
  • Salary range $67,362 - $79,207

Physical Demands

  • Sedentary Exerting up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time.

Travel Requirements

  • Occasional travel within the region via ground transportation
