Position: Experienced Sushi Chef

Location: Santa Barbara, CA

Job Description: OKU Restaurant is seeking a skilled and experienced Sushi Chef to join our team. As a Sushi Chef, you will be responsible for preparing and presenting high-quality sushi dishes to our customers. This is an exciting opportunity to showcase your culinary skills and creativity in a fast-paced and dynamic restaurant environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Experienced and highly skilled in making traditional sushi and sushi rolls with a comprehensive knowledge of Japanese cuisine, sake, fish, seafood and cooking techniques
  • Prepare a variety of sushi rolls, sashimi, nigiri, and other sushi dishes according to Oku’s established recipes and presentation standards
  • Ensure the freshness and quality of ingredients used in sushi preparation
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the sushi station and kitchen area
  • Inspect the quality of ingredients such as vegetables and fish used in sushi preparation and ensure food item consistency
  • Follow proper plate presentation and prepare garnishes for all dishes
  • Stock and maintain sufficient levels of food products at line stations to assure a smooth service period
  • Sterilize all utensils, instruments and equipment used in sushi preparation before every use
  • Adhere to food safety and sanitation guidelines at all times
  • Collaborate closely with the your team to maintain smooth kitchen operations and timely service
  • Be available to fill in as needed to ensure a smooth and an efficient operation of the restaurant as directed by the Head Sushi Chef or Restaurant Manager
  • Demonstrate excellent customer service skills and the ability to remain calm and composed under pressure

Requirements:

  • Previous experience as a Sushi Chef or in a similar role in a restaurant of food service setting.
  • Strong knowledge of sushi preparation techniques, including knife skills and food handling.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen environment while maintaining attention to detail and quality.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Certification in food safety and sanitation practices preferred.
  • Passion for culinary excellence and dedication to continuous improvement.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: $18.00 - $22.00 per hour
