Henry County Water & Sewerage Authority is Hiring an AMI Technician Near Mcdonough, GA

Under general supervision of the AMI Supervisor, performs highly technical inspection duties that require verifying the accuracy and completeness of the meter replacement program; utilizes AMI software, GIS, and other databases to monitor data, track trends, create and close service orders, and track inventory materials used; communicates effectively both verbally and in writing, using clear and concise language; performs highly detailed work thoroughly, neatly and accurately; develops and maintains effective working relationships with customers, contractors, Billing, Customer Service, Operations, and Engineering.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Assists with building route cost estimates for the meter replacement program and maintains contractor inventory utilizing Google Sheets while making recommendations on meter change-out projects to HCWA management and contractors to solve issues of constructability, serviceability, and cost effectiveness during the budget planning, design, and annual review phases of project.
  • Works with contractors, staff, and management to ensure a high performance, customer service-oriented work environment that supports achieving HCWA’s mission of the meter replacement program; acts as a liaison and first point of contact between the contractors and HCWA; trains and provides feedback on the performance of contractors and reports to management.
  • Meets and confers with HCWA staff, contractors, engineers, homeowners, and businesses to coordinate raising/lowering meters, backflow installations, and shut-downs for residential and commercial accounts to ensure meter replacement is completed without any issues.
  • Reviews and examines materials to verify their compliance and suitability for installation and application; performs field inspections to monitor, evaluate, and document contractor progress including repairs; ensures construction conforms to specifications, drawings, and other contract requirements.
  • Prepares inspectors' daily report and periodic progress reports on materials ordered and used for meter replacement projects; maintains accurate up-to-date data to depict current status of projects; reviews contractor change orders and makes recommendations for changes or approval.
  • Monitors Device Manager and Sensus Analytics for communications, alerts, and alarms on meter replacement program meters; performs field investigations including but not limited to meter communication failures, register errors, high consumption, and stale meters.
  • Maintains the Customer Information System (CIS) database and creates new inventory files; enters meter replacement data and performs quality control review of data in Sensus Analytics; extracts data from spreadsheets for entry into the account database; inputs and processes digital photos and scans documents, including edits to meter location in the GIS database; creates and runs queries and reports from the databases as requested.
  • Handles difficult, sensitive, and escalated customer relations situations; makes thorough investigation of customer complaints and issues, utilizing patience, sensitivity, and sound judgment; reviews account consumption patterns and history, including prior field investigations of customer meters; takes or recommends action to resolve the complaints where appropriate and improve HCWA-customer relationships.
  • Conducts training for other departments on best meter replacement practices, day-to-day operations, and required safety procedures in accordance with HCWA policies; maintain SOPs on meter replacement process.
  • Conducts field investigations of high consumption complaints; performs situational and functional field tests for meter accuracy and usage; determines whether water leaks or broken or defective meters are causes; explains water conservation options; submits investigative findings and recommendations for action by Billing and Customer Service staff; notifies customers of action taken and results.
  • Works with AMI and other departments to deploy AMI solutions including but not limited to Smart Gateways, sensors, probes, and other devices to monitor remote sites; supports SCADA staff with integration solutions.

Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must be at least 21 years of age.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Valid Georgia Driver's License. Confined Space training certificate.
