Henry County Water & Sewerage Authority is Hiring an Industrial Monitor Inspector Near Mcdonough, GA

Assists with the day to day operations of our Industrial Monitoring Program to ensure compliance with HCWA Sewer Use Ordinance and all applicable state and federal laws as required by the Clean Water Act. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Performs inspections of permitted industries and takes enforcement actions against violating industries as required by the Enforcement Response Plan
  • Inspects industrial and commercial businesses to ensure compliance with ordinances and regulations 
  • Documents ordinance violations, surcharges, visits, verbal and written correspondence, etc.
  • Performs routine sampling and assist in data collection that is critical for the Annual Pretreatment Report 
  • Collects and preserves samples of effluent discharge from industries; prepares sampling paperwork including chain of custodies and labels; schedules with laboratories 
  • Performs calculation and application of surcharges for sewer ordinance violations as specified in the Sewer Use Ordinance
  • Responsible for maintenance and calibration of sampling equipment used at permitted industries to ensure compliance
  • Evaluates industrial user’s production, operation and maintenance practices as it relates to waste discharged into sewer system
  • Responsible for tracking industrial flow monitoring data 
  • Investigates and samples wastewater outfall areas and industries for toxicity, slug load and upset effects; prepares reports
  • Monitors and enforces best management practices according to the EPA Dental Amalgam Rule
  • Attends Pre-Construction Meetings; confers with contractors, business owners, and the general public on pretreatment; explains and interprets requirements and restrictions
  • Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with customers, coworkers and other agencies such as Environmental Health department, Department of Agriculture, HCWA Maintenance personnel and the HCWA GIS Department
  • Maintains a database of HCWA Grease Management Program customers that includes records of inspections, re-inspections, undersized interceptors, overdue manifests, MNGWPD requirements and maintenance
  • Conducts new grease/oil and water separator installation inspections
  • Inspects and samples the facilities of wastewater dischargers; inspects records on operation and activities; inspects the size, installation and maintenance of grease/oil and water interceptors 
  • Performs annual inspections of septage trucks
  • Conducts surveillance on septic and FOG haulers 
  • Educates customers on the importance of best management practices to assist in keeping grease out of the sanitary sewer. 
  • Performs routine inspections of all permitted and non-permitted industries in the county 
  • Assists in overseeing operations of cooling water towers that receive water credits
  • Assists in overseeing all new construction or upgrades for all permitted industries and newly expected permitted industries

Education and/or Experience: Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must be at least 21 years of age.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Valid Georgia Driver's License. Must pass GA Class III Wastewater Operator exam and obtain license within 18 months in this position.

The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
