Position Title: K-8 School Principal
Funding Source: General Fund
Reports to: This position reports to and is evaluated by the Chief Academic Officer and Executive Principal.
Qualifications:
Masters Degree in Education with evidence of coursework in Educational Leadership
Valid Michigan School Administrator Certificate - ELEMENTARY & SECONDARY ADMIN K-12 (ES)
At least 8 years of teaching and administrative experience
Strong leadership skills
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Strong knowledge of current educational best practices
Position Description: The K-8 School Principal at Detroit Academy of Arts and Sciences provides instructional, operational and administrative leadership necessary to ensure the success of the school.
Position Responsibilities:
Manage and lead school culture actions that lead to strong outcomes for our scholars, families, and staff
Design, support, and monitor implementation of the schools Strategic Plan to ensure its successful execution
Engage key constituents students, staff, parents/caregivers, and community to assist in the creation of a school environment that empowers students to achieve ambitious goals
Drive all work in personnel management and staff development including hiring, coaching and developing professional growth plans
Design and lead school-wide professional development that promotes and encourages staff professional growth and guarantees an equitable curriculum that is culturally relevant and appropriate to our scholars needs
Coach and evaluate teachers and instructional support staff in alignment with the Charlotte Danielson Framework for Teaching and adapted rubrics
Provide oversight of the standards, policy, and protocols set forth in the DAAS District Policy Manual and Student Code of Conduct to ensure that they are maintained by students, families, and teachers
Participate in grant writing to access school-wide professional development and resources
Monitor and track trends in student performance across all academic and non-academic areas to ensure school performance toward meeting school goals, vision and mission
Provide leadership, direction and support to the implementation of the schools MTSS instructional and program plans
Support increasing daily attendance and decrease chronic absenteeism by ensuring barriers to attendance are being addressed
Support a school culture and climate that celebrates academic and personal growth
Manage student recruitment, retention and enrollment processes
Ensure the installation of a welcoming structure, attitude and process for receiving all parents and visitors to the building
Oversee and ensure accurate and up-to-date cumulative record keeping for all enrolled students
Efficiently manage school assets; monitoring the school budget and maintaining financial records and inventories of school assets
Complete and submit all reports due to federal, state and county authorities within the specified timelines
Ensure the fair and equitable application of the Student Code of Conduct
Other duties and responsibilities as designated by Executive Leadership.
Physical Requirements: Light Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force as frequently as needed to move objects; Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pushing and pulling.
Terms of Employment: Salary benefits shall be paid consistent with the District's approved compensation plan. The salary range for this position is $90,000-$110,000. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the District.
Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated by the Chief Academic Officer in accordance with provisions of the Boards policy on evaluation of personnel.
