Job Description

Position Overview: 
 Abrazar (to Embrace) is seeking additional drivers to add to our fleet. We are now seeking full-time energetic, safety-minded Class C or B drivers for service originating from Abrazar, Inc. office located at 7101 Wyoming St, Westminster, CA 92683. 

Our team of drivers are compassionate, caring, reliable and responsible individuals charged with getting clients with mobility challenges to their destinations safely and on time. The service will primarily be to provide round-trip transportation services for residents who live in North and Central Orange County. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Safely operate wheelchair bus.
  • Reach and operate floor and instrument panel controls. 
  • Safely load, unload, secure, and transport clients to their destination in company vehicles. 
  • Safely moving, lifting and positioning patients with medical equipment (wheelchair, walker).
  • Manually extend and put away manual ramp up to 40 pounds. 
  • Manipulate an occupied disabled person’s mobility equipment to an on-board location and properly secure with installed constraint apparatus, lift, close, and secured access doors and panel. 
  • Must be physically able to step up and down steps and transport wheelchair clients on paved and unpaved surfaces. 
  • Able to lift up to 150 pounds
  • Provide individualized assistance/accommodation to senior and/or disabled passengers by utilizing wheelchair lifts, seats, and other special access necessary for a safe, secure, and comfortable ride.
  • Other physical requirements are: 
    • Lift/carry/push/pull more than 15 pounds and up to 150 pounds
    • Carrying more than 15 pounds and up to 150 pounds for 10 to 100 feet. 
    • Frequent bend at the waist and neck
    • Frequent twisting at Torso/spine, waist, and neck.
    • Frequent standing, sitting, bending on one knee, squatting, kneeling, and walking. 
    • Frequent climbing up/down resident and shuttle bus stairs.
    • Frequent use of cell phone to text and type email. 
    • Hand use: 
      • Repetitive use of hands for grasping, power grasping, fine manipulation, pushing and pulling. 
    • Shoulder use:
      • Frequent reach above and below shoulder level
  • Show up to work on time.
  • Flexible and able to handle fluctuating traffic situations to safely transport clients to their destination.
  • Flexible and able to handle changes in ride schedule
  • Correct and timely completion of paperwork
  • Inspect buses daily using a daily vehicle checklist
  • Clean and sanitize vehicle after each trip as necessary
  • Able to pass random drug and alcohol screens throughout the work year
  • Able to handle demanding clients with diplomacy and professionalism
  • Professional demeanor and dress
  • Capable of following written instructions and documented procedures
  • Complete and pass required training including, but not limited to defensive driving, CPR, First AID, Service to the Elderly and Disabled, and securing patients
  • Check gas levels before and after trip, fueling vehicle when appropriate
  • Show good judgment and calmness when there are changes to routine or emergencies arising during transport
  • Able to report back to scheduler and/or office as necessary
  • Adhere to company policies and protocol.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Additional responsibilities for our Shuttle Drivers may apply per location requirements and include but are not limited to:
  • Must have experience transporting senior and/or disabled citizens in accordance with pre-arranged appointments/schedules.
  • Must ensure that individuals with disabilities have adequate time to complete boarding or disembarking from the vehicle.
  • Previous experience as a Shuttle Driver recommended.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • American Red Cross Standard First Aid Card or equivalent.
  • CPR certification.
  • Must pass a pre-employment physical exam, drug screen, and criminal background check
  • Must possess a valid California Driver’s license, and provide a current 3-year DMV printout.
  • No more than 1 moving violation or 1 “at fault” accident within the past 3 years.
  • Must have previous customer service experience with a good track record of assisting customers in a thoughtful, caring and timely manner.
  • Able to use smartphones
  • Able to use mapping and driving apps to find and use appropriate and safe driving routes

Preferred Skills:

  • Know how to keep a level head in a busy environment.
  • Must be passionate about helping people.
  • Great communication skills.
  • Class B driver’s license with passenger endorsement is not required but a plus.
  • Good working knowledge of the Metro-South Orange County area is a plus

Benefits:

  • Salary: 
  • Class C License - $16.00 to $17.00 
  • Class B License - $18.00 to $19.00
  • Driver Trainer - $17.00 to $18.00
  • No tipping, end-of-year bonus based on safety and overall performance
  • Paid Time Off - Vacation (12 days per year), after 3 months, accrued monthly.
  • Paid Time Off – Health (7 days per year), after 3 months, accrued monthly.
  • Holiday Pay (12 days per year), eligible after 3 months.
