investment Institute is Hiring a Director, Technology and Business Continuity Near Washington, DC

The Investment Company Institute (ICI) is the leading association representing regulated investment funds, including mutual funds, exchange-traded funds (ETFs), closed-end funds, and unit investment trusts (UITs) in the United States, and UCITS and similar funds offered to investors in Europe, Asia, and other jurisdictions. ICI also represents its members on issues involving the capital markets, separately managed accounts (SMAs) and collective investment trusts (CITs). ICI’s mission is to strengthen the foundation of the asset management industry for the ultimate benefit of the long-term individual investor. 

Reporting to the Chief of Industry Operations, the Director, Technology and Business Continuity supports members’ongoing understanding, applicability, and management of present and future technologies within their respective organizations – either deployed in-house or through use of third-party service providers – to address business priorities. The Director, Technology and Business Continuity supports members by encouraging sharing of strategies to mitigate, prepare for, respond to, and recover from business disruption in ways that strengthen both individual members’ and overall industry resilience.

Essential functions of this role include:

  • Coordinates and facilitates the ICI Technology and Business Continuity Planning Committees, in support of and with ICI members.
  • Partners with ICI Industry Operations directors in establishing and sustaining the Financial Innovation Advisory Committee, focused on member education, awareness, and supporting ICI policy development and advocacy toward emerging financial innovation – including application of technology – affecting asset management. Examples include blockchain, digital assets, and cryptocurrency.
  • Partners with ICI Industry Operations directors in establishing and sustaining engagement with third-party technology providers to the asset management industry, to assist members with understanding the types of providers available and leverage contacts when necessary to support ICI policy, advocacy, and member education efforts.
  • Contributes subject matter expertise toward ICI’s policy positions and strategic initiatives in the areas of technology, business continuity, and financial innovation.
  • Seeks opportunities to expand sharing of ICI’s thought leadership on technology, business continuity, and fintech matters through conference participation, speaking engagements, press availability, and publications, as appropriate.
  • Serves as program development co-leader of ICI’s annual Innovate Conference.
  • Advises ICI’s Operations Response Task Force, a rapid response group comprised by members of ICI’s back-office operations’ advisory committees and focused on member/intermediary interaction during market disruption, unexpected market close, or other operationally disruptive events that broadly affect ICI members.
  • Supports the Senior Director, Information Security in representing ICI, as needed, as a secondary contact for various industry partnerships where ICI has or develops a presence. 
  • Collaborates with ICI peers as part of ICI’s overall support of members’ technology, information security, and data management needs.
  • Leads or participates in other responsibilities as assigned.

If you have the following credentials, we encourage you to apply:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, economics, finance, or related field; advanced degree a plus.
  • At least 10 years’ experience working in financial services, with at least 5 years preferred in a role focused on developing, applying, or managing technology solutions.
  • Good understanding of regulatory frameworks and compliance requirements relevant to the asset management industry.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders, orally and in writing.
  • Solid interpersonal skills. Experience with relationship management a plus. 
  • Demonstrated experience with concurrent management of several projects.
