Job Description

Directs and coordinates of activities of warehouse in cut to size operations and/or distribution of Aerospace Metals by performing the following essential duties personally or through subordinate supervisors.

Essential Duties

  • Ensures that all AMI standard policies and procedures are adhered to concerning all facets of operations, including receiving, packing, cutting (shear, saw and machining center), shipping, and quality assurance.
  • Responsible for complete understanding of all departments and the individual functions. Supervision of all production employees.
  • Promotes, supports, and instills in subordinates a spirit of total quality management.
  • Maintains the highest quality standards in all areas of responsibility. Continuous process improvements.
  • Develops and implements safety Standards to provide a safe working environment for all employees.
  • Is involved in all employee meetings such as Safety, TQM, and SPC.
  • Responsible for local management of worker’s compensation risk prevention and claims reporting and management. Reports all claims to the Human Resources Department.
  • Works closely with Director of Operations and senior management to funnel correct and timely and correct information on all operational issues.
  • Takes all necessary steps to minimize costs and maximize profits.
  • Maintains 99.5% inventory accuracy.
  • Maintains preventative maintenance schedules on all equipment and machines.
  • Determines training needs and develops a budget for training.
  • Reviews monthly production charts with all operational employees.
  • Recruits, hires, and orients new employees. Maintains copies of employee personnel files, track absences, and benefits accruals. Provides new hire, payroll and benefits information to Human Resources department. Provides local administration of company Human Resources policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for performance appraisals for production employees.
  • Helps develop objectives, accountabilities, and output levels. Must focus on results, with the ultimate goal of customer satisfaction in mind.

Qualifications

  • Education/Experience Bachelor’s degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or Three (3) to Five (5) years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Language Skills-  Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Mathematical Skills-  Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Reasoning Ability-  Ability to apply understanding to carry out written and/or oral instructions.
  • Work Environment- Employees are regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, and vibration. The employee is frequently exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme heat, and risk of electrical shock. The noise level is usually loud.   • Physical Demands- The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk on elevated work surfaces; use hands and fingers to handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The position requires frequent lifting, pushing and pulling objects that are 50 pounds or heavier.
  • Supervisory Responsibilities - Manages 2 to 4 subordinate supervisors who supervise a total of 4 to 10 employees in each of these departments: packing, shear, saw, material handling, shipping, and receiving. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units. Also directly supervises 20 to 30 non-supervisory employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Other Skills and Abilities- Ability to work under stressful conditions. Computer literacy required. Ability to work irregular hours. Ability to deal with irate individuals. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships. Skill in exercising a high degree of initiative, judgment, discretion and decision-making to achieve organization objectives. Skill in evaluating organizational operations as they relate to policies, goals, and objectives. Knowledge of management principles and theories.
