Primary Purpose: Assist the Director of Transportation to enable each student, through safe and efficient transportation, to take full advantage of the complete range of curriculum and extracurricular activities provided by the District.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Major Responsibilities and Duties Instructional Management
Assist in developing and administering a transportation program to meet the requirements of the daily instructional program and extracurricular activities.
School/Organizational Climate
Work cooperatively with principals and staff to promote teamwork and school bus safety education.
Provide two-way communication with director, staff, parents, and community.
Communicate and promote high expectations, recognize excellence and achievement, and encourage good attendance for safe driving.
Notify campus administrators to provide disciplinary consequences to disruptive students on the school bus.
Provide education and training to ensure school bus safety.
School/Organizational Improvement
Assist in reviewing safety precautions, procedures, and recommendations relative to changes in the transportation program.
Assist in planning and promoting safety as related to pupils, bus drivers, and equipment.
Personnel Management
Maintain driver records.
Recruit, interview, select, provide orientation and training to driver applicants and new staff.
Define expectations for staff performance regarding safe driving procedures.
Confer with drivers concerning student safety violations.
Provide guidance to drivers as needed to better serve their function of transporting students safely and efficiently.
Assist in observing drivers in their adherence to pupil safety rules and regulations
Administration and Fiscal/Facilities Management
Comply with district policy, state, and federal laws/regulations affecting school transportation.
Facilitate effective and timely resolution of problems.
Develop and maintain records necessary for attainment of excellence in transportation.
Utilize and analyze data to track bus safety violations and develop a plan to address issues.
Communicate student safety reports.
Schedule and coordinate Bus Evacuation Training.
Gather information on accidents involving school buses and information on student safety violations.
Student Management
Implement and maintain a discipline program to address disciplinary problems relative to transportation.
Work with transportation staff to develop a discipline management system which results in positive student behavior.
Ensure that bus rules are uniformly observed with appropriate student discipline.
Establish parent involvement as an integral part of the school discipline management plan.
Professional Growth and Development
Attend professional growth activities/programs in order to keep abreast of operational and innovative techniques in transportation.
Attendance at work is an essential function.
Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor and/or Superintendent.
School/Community Relations
Conduct conferences with parents, students, and principals concerning students.
Develops appropriate and effective techniques for meeting community needs for special populations.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Assist director in supervising and evaluating departmental personnel
EXPERIENCE:
Minimum Experience:
Three years of experience in school transportation management preferred
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Education/Certification:
Bachelor's degree preferred
Special training in transportation management preferred
Valid Texas Driver's License required (Class B CDL/P and S Endorsement)
Certification of good health as required by the State of Texas, signed by a licensed physician
Eligible for coverage under the District's vehicle insurance program
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Effective communication and teaching skills in dealing with applicants, staff and public
Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to implement policy and procedures
Ability to assist with the supervision and management of a large vehicle fleet operation
