Clinical Supervisor Job Description

Job Summary

The Clinical Supervisor is responsible for the clinical supervision of counselors/professionals in training, counselors/professionals requiring supervision by regulatory authorities, and/or counselors/professionals who are working towards their certification or licensure as well as providing guidance and assistance to the counseling team as needed. The Clinical Supervisor is responsible for assisting patients in identifying, maximizing, and relating their strengths to appropriate social, educational (academic and vocational), and occupational goals. The Clinical Supervisor is also responsible for helping the patients prepare and adjust to a drug free existence, and to offer assistance (emotional and physical) in problematic issues. The Clinical Supervisor (if not the Program Administrator/Director themselves) is responsible to the Program Administrator/Director for provision of services to assigned patients and adherence to schedules, established treatment program policies and procedures, and applicable federal, state, and local regulations. The Clinical Supervisor will perform duties within the scope of their license or certification.

Minimum Requirements

The ideal candidate must comply with federal and state regulations regarding certification, licensure and degree which are:

Oregon

The ideal candidate must comply with federal and state regulations regarding certification, licensure and degree of a Certified Alcohol Drug Counselor (CADC) II and meet the qualifications listed below:

  • Five years of paid full-time experience in the field of substance use disorders counseling; or
  • A Bachelor's Degree and four years of paid full-time experience in the social services field, with a minimum of two years of direct substance use disorders counseling experience; or
  • A Master's Degree and three years of paid full-time experience in the social services field with a minimum of two years of direct substance use disorders counseling experience.
  • Has not committed, permitted, aided, or abetted the commission of an illegal act or unprofessional conduct as defined under ORS 443.004/0AR 407-007-0277
  • Must have a valid driver's license and meet the requirements for employment in an opioid treatment program.

Washington

The ideal candidate must comply with federal and state regulations regarding certification, licensure and degree of a Substance Use Disorder Professional (SUDP) and meet the qualifications listed below:

  • Qualifications must either meet or exceed the requirements of a certified Substance Use Disorder Professional in the state of Washington.
  • Must be eligible to take the examination required for certification and have at least four-thousand hours of experience in a state approved Substance Use Disorder treatment agency. The four thousand hours are in addition to the supervised experience hours needed to be eligible to become a Substance Use Disorder professional. Twenty-eight clock hours of recognized supervised training may be substituted for one thousand hours of experience.
  • Has not committed, permitted, aided, or abetted the commission of an illegal act or unprofessional conduct as defined under RCW 18.130.180
  • Must have a valid driver's license and meet the requirements for employment in an opioid treatment program.

  • Demonstrate basic computer/word processing skills
  • Demonstrate basic knowledge and skill in the use of typical office equipment such as calculator, fax machine, copier, computer, telephone and computer programs

Summary of Essential Job Functions

  • Responsible for the achievement of assigned specific annual goals and objectives
  • Responsible for mentoring and training counseling team members regarding best practices in counseling and skills necessary to engage patients in treatment
  • Training

  • Attend conferences, meetings and training programs as directed
  • Participate in and/or schedule and attend regular in-service trainings

Duties and Responsibilities


  • Meet with counselors/professionals for whom they are providing clinical supervision on a periodic basis, provide constructive feedback to counselors/professionals regarding their progress, and prepare required documentation as required by regulatory agency
  • Provide oversight to counselors/professionals under their supervision by accompanying them while conducting 1:1 sessions and/or group therapy sessions
  • Provide hands-on training of the 12 core functions through direct observation and case record review
  • Provide to be consistent with a minimum of two hours per month of clinical supervisor consultation for each staff person or volunteer who is responsible for the delivery of treatment services. One hour of the supervision must be individual, face-to-face and address clinical skill development.
  • Provide learning opportunities for counselors/professionals under their supervision through role play,co-facilitation, observation, and any other viable option for enhanced skill
  • Conduct alcohol and drug abuse counseling sessions on a regular basis per state regulation, or as part of the individual treatment plan
  • Conduct group counseling sessions as required
  • Orient patients to the treatment program's operation and procedures
  • Collect available social, educational, economic, and vocational information to be used as part of the assessment process
  • Implement or revise patient treatment plans with the patient as required per state regulation and record a review of the patient's progress according to ORTC policy
  • Develop within (10) days of entry or as required by state guidelines, whichever is more stringent, aformaltreatmentplandocumentingpatientgoalsandupdateutilizingthesame
  • Maintain patient records that are complete, comprehensive and well organized
  • Submit records for periodic review as requested by supervisory team
  • DocumentallpatientIfotherteammembersprovideservicestothepatient, the assigned counselor/professional is responsible to see that such contacts are documented in the patient's chart
  • Make appropriate referrals through case-management services and perform necessary follow-up
  • Assist the Program Administrator/Director in implementing new programs into patient treatment
  • Advise the Program Administrator/Director of problems encountered with caseload management and Schedules.
  • Attend weekly treatment team meetings prepared to both lead the discussion where appropriate and also discuss his/her assigned individual patient caseload
  • Provide in-service trainings to counselors/professionals and other treatment center team members as needed
  • On-call phone rotation
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor
