Under the direction of the Director of Economic & Community Development, this position performs routine clerical work, assist department staff where directed, types reports, purchase requisitions, correspondence, greets the public, answers and takes telephone messages.
Under the general direction of the Economic & Community Development Director work is performed independently within general guidelines. Guidance is provided through the departmental procedures and city policies, as well as related city ordinances (Zoning and Subdivision Ordinances). Additional guidance is provided by the City's Municipal Code and City adopted codes, as well as federal, state and local requirements and guidelines, union contracts, City policies and procedures, and generally accepted professional guidelines. Work is evaluated by the department director, through reports, weekly meetings, verbal and written communications, and annual evaluations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, talk or hear, taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and or move up to 15 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
