IRVING INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT
JOB COACH
JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: Job Coach
LENGTH OF WORK YEAR: 187 days
REPORTS TO: Director of Special Education or Designee
PAY GRADE: In accordance with Board approved salary schedule
PRIMARY PURPOSE: Collaborates with businesses, transition specialist and teachers to assist students with employability skills by providing on-the-job training and developing employment skills to students working in the community. Responsible for maintaining student records on job performance and analyzing job duties.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Education:
Educational Aide I Paraprofessional Certificate
High School Diploma or GED
A valid Texas Driver License and reliable transportation
Special Knowledge/Skills
  • Ability to work well with students
  • Ability to use/learn basic computer applications
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills with business personnel, teachers, district staff, and students both orally and written
  • Ability to collaborate in the best interest of students
  • Ability to develop employment skills for students with various disabilities
Minimum Experience:
  • Minimum 2 years experience as an instructional paraprofessional preferred
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
  • Assist in supervising students throughout the school day as needed to maintain an environment in which students are motivated to perform well and are held accountable for completing their job tasks on a daily basis
  • Assist in the completion of daily progress notes and chart progress for each task accomplished by students in their working environment
  • Assist in inventory, care, and maintenance of vocational equipment as assigned
  • Assist in preparing materials/displays for instruction, and coordinate job development activities with Transition Specialist(s)
  • Participate in staff development programs, faculty meetings, and special events, as required
  • Able to ride the special education bus to and from job sites to increase instructional time with students as required
  • Able to communicate and work effectively with a variety of people
  • Communicate and interpret the philosophy of the district's general education and special education transition programs effectively with parents, school personnel, and community
  • Relate to staff, students, and parents, in ways that convey equality, mutual respect, and concern
  • Demonstrate skill in conflict resolution with administrators, staff, teachers and/or the community
  • Assist classroom teachers with the implementation of vocation goals
  • Work cooperatively with others in attaining district and special education program goals and objectives
  • Work cooperatively with campus, transportation, and central office personnel to insure schools are in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations for special education
  • Ability to multitask to meet the demands of multiple students
  • Ability to differentiate instruction for students with varying disabilities
  • Ability to manage student behavior in the community
  • Participate in professional development activites to improve skills related to job assignment.
  • Maintain a professional and ethical manner as outlined in the Standards of Conduct for the Profession
  • Maintain mental and physical abilty to perform job functions
  • Act as an effective liaison among staff, parents, and community
  • Communicate and convey information with clarity regarding the district's programs
  • Requires frequent in-district travel
  • Demonstrate organization skills
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Physical/Mental Demands: Adequate upper body strength needed as moderate lifting involved. Correctable visual acuity, auditory acuity, speech and fine motor dexterity required. Should be able to navigate school building and businesses frequently and independently. Ability to concentrate, maintain control of emotions under stress.
