Position Summary

The Development Team is the engine of the Foundation, actively engaging with prospective and current donors to propel forward the strategic vision of Dallas College. The Senior Director, Development, leads individual, foundation, and corporate cultivation and development on behalf of Dallas College; ensures that development strategies and activities align with the strategic priorities of Dallas College Foundation and Dallas College; directs and manages the development team function.

The Senior Director, Development, reports to the Executive Director. Like all Dallas College Foundation employees, this individual is a keeper of the Dallas College Foundation culture of philanthropy.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of and relationships with the philanthropic community in the Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex, the state of Texas, and nationally.

  • Potential to lead a campaign and translatable experience to be prepared for the role; ability to work across boundaries with different groups to help achieve campaign goals.

  • Creativity to develop and implement new strategies and procedures in order to achieve development goals.

  • Demonstrated success in lead gift fundraising: gifts of 6 to 7-figures , and a working knowledge of the complexity of these gifts; ability to be a knowledge expert guide for the fundraising team.

  • Knowledge of key issues and subjects related to philanthropy, higher education, community colleges, economic mobility, workforce development and other subject matters that are important to donors and other key stakeholders.

  • Familiar with applicable fundraising laws, regulations and requirements and their impact on compliance; institutes necessary procedures, policies, and practices to comply with applicable fundraising laws, regulations, and requirements.

  • Excellent interpersonal, presentation, oral and written communication skills, and the ability to interact with stakeholders and constituents within the Dallas College and philanthropic communities.

  • Ability to collaborate with Dallas College leadership and/or stakeholders.

  • Well-developed management and supervisory skills that provide leadership and direction to key areas of oversight.

  • Ability to deftly manage group dynamics and ambiguity; maintains confidentiality; acts ethically and with integrity.

  • Proven customer relationship management skills and understanding of how to deliver the highest-quality customer experience to all stakeholders, especially foundations and other donor.

  • Familiarity with Raiser's Edge and similar customer relationship management software is strongly preferred.

  • Ability to provide excellent customer service with creative, solutions-oriented management.

  • Deep understanding of how a high-functioning development team works, including frontline fundraising, scholarships, and reporting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Dallas College Foundation's primary liaison to the philanthropic community and to specific high-priority donors and foundations.

  • Lead and manage a team of Dallas College Foundation fundraisers before, during, and after major philanthropic initiatives.

  • Develop and advance fundraising strategies in support of Dallas College Foundation and Dallas College priorities.

  • Lead by example to grow the culture of philanthropy at Dallas College Foundation and Dallas College.

  • Support implementation of Dallas College Foundation portfolios.

  • Own and manage a portfolio of lead and major gift prospects.

  • Co-manage the Development Committee of the Dallas College Foundation Board in conjunction with the Board & Donor Relations Director and Executive Director.

  • Coach, mentor, and train the fundraising team in fundraising best practices.

  • Grow the culture of philanthropy and share philanthropic best practices across the Dallas College Foundation team.

  • Collaborate with the Executive Director, Chancellor, and others, as appropriate, on priority prospect engagement strategies.

  • Manage a portfolio of 50-100 lead and major gift donors, leading donors from cultivation through to stewardship and beyond.

  • Manages six (6) full-time employees.

  • Develop and implement a creative and comprehensive plan to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward individual, foundation, and corporate donors, as well as maintain engagement with current donor base support.

  • Stay abreast of new trends in technology and best practices in the field of development, as well as the fields of higher education, workforce development, and other relevant subject matter.

  • Develop a solicitation-tracking schedule to ensure appropriate, timely solicitation and closure of pledges and asks.

  • Maintain high ethical standards and adherence to applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures.

  • Complete required Dallas College professional development training hours per academic year.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree plus 8-10 years of professional experience in related field(s), including at least 5-7 years of direct development experience.

  • Supervisory experience preferred.

  • Official transcripts are required.

  • Must have a valid driver's license for off-site travel.

  • Work hours may extend beyond the typical eight hours, Monday-Friday, workday, including weekends and holidays to provide immediate support in exceptional cases.

  • Potential for some hybrid work
