  1. RESPONSIBILITIES OF A LEARNING CENTER DIRECTOR:

RELATIONSHIP-BUILDING & ENGAGEMENT

  • Work collaboratively with the VP of Leadership development and other YMCAs in our region to cultivate and maintain relationships with YMCA leaders within our Learning Center Region, Alliances and with other Learning Centers nationally.
  • Demonstrated commitment to work collaboratively with Y-USA
  • Demonstrated commitment to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and an ability to apply the lens to the work.

LEARNING EXPERIENCES

  • This position requires travel throughout the 8 states of the Mountain Region Learning Center (Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Utah, Montana, New Mexico, Nevada and Wyoming and occasional travel to YMCA of the USA meetings.
  • Support the work in national needs assessment and prioritization of highest need classes.
  • Planning and delivery of in-person regional training for the highest prioritized class in collaboration with all other regions. Implementation includes the sourcing of locations, identification of staff, set up in training/registration system (LCDC), support to trainer and host, and all administrative tasks.
  • Working within the learning team at Valley of the Sun YMCA.
  • Respond to requests for training support from YMCAs within region.
  • Identify, support, and develop trainers and faculty for all courses, support trainer quality through assessment.
  • Support local Y implementation of training. Provide guidance, expertise, and support to the execution of local training including an understanding of systems and available learning.
  • Support and host national cohort programs such as P&P; Regional EMLE, Branch Executive Bootcamp.
  • Provide consultation and support for program and certification (Health/Wellness, Aquatics and Leadership)
  • Work collaboratively with VP of Leadership Development to work with Y-USA and practice leads to meet needs.

Administration

  • Attend onboarding sessions and meetings focused on continuous improvement.
  • Oversee coordination of the contract budget
  • Join VP of Leadership Development on monthly Learning Center Leads meeting.
  • Adhere to all reporting and information requests.
  • Follow procedures associated with assessment, planning, tracking and evaluation.
  • Collaborate with VP to disseminate Learning Center communications and newsletter.
  • Participate in planning local and regional event calendar.
  • Special projects as assigned.
  • Support in MOYP (YMCA of the USA annual report process)
  • Support in implementation and administration of VOS Learning Management system.

SKILLS

  • Continuously evaluate procedure to optimize results and maximum impact while maintaining affordable training for the region.
  • Able to stay on task with relatively little supervision.
  • Ability to hold a high level of confidentiality.
  • Ability to travel to be on-site management when needed.
  • Ability to relate and work effectively with diverse groups of people from all segments of the community.
  • Ability to lead with influence.

OTHER

  • Participates in Valley of the Sun YMCA training planning and support.
  • Completes other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS TO BE A LEARNING CENTER DIRECTOR:

  • College degree preferred.
  • Certification as a Y-USA Team Leader or in progress.
  • The ability to travel to deliver and/or manage on-site training where applicable.
  • Technologically savvy in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Internet and learning new applications. The ability to quickly master technology tools and various complex software applications is a plus.
  • Experience in Y-USA Learning & Career Development Center, Virtual presentation platforms (Zoom, Teams) and/or Learning Management Systems or related experience in HR and/or learning and training is a plus.
  • Strong team player, with the ability to be flexible and service oriented toward partnering with the region.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, project management expertise, time management and organization skills.
  • Excellent oral/written skills
  • Certification as a Y-USA trainer is preferred.
  • Experience in the Y network and the service delivery system is a plus.
  • Flexibility with days and hours as training events might dictate.
