Practicum Program Coordinator & Business Teacher

Job Description

Title Practicum Program Coordinator/ Teacher & Business Teacher (10 Month)

Relationships
Cultivates relationships with program mentors, alumni, community members, and students. Partners with
parents to maximize student success. Reports to the Principal.

Summary
The Practicum Job Shadowing Program provides juniors and seniors with unique, real-world field
experiences to better understand the practical and personal skills required in careers of interest. This
program offers a variety of field placement opportunities that expose students to different career options.
The classroom component extends and deepens students’ field experiences through personal interest
assessments and reflection papers. Students obtain a better understanding of their own skills and interests
as they prepare for college selection and career success.

The Practicum Program Coordinator/ Business Teacher’s primary responsibility is for the overall
long-term planning, coordination, development, and evaluation of the Practicum program. Areas of
primary direction include the curriculum development and implementation of the course curricula,
cultivation of community partnerships and mentors, budget management, support of current students, and
implementation of related events.

This position includes teaching the semester-long course Introduction to the Principles of Business,
Marketing, and Finance and Communications and Financial Literacy. Areas of shared responsibility and
direction include recruiting prospective Practicum students, evaluating the Practicum program,
supervising the learning environment, school culture/climate, and fostering the mission of Resurrection
College Prep High School.

Qualifications
Dispositions: The successful candidate will aim to mediate a Catholic culture within the school faith
community; communicate Catholic moral and intellectual values; demonstrate precision, accuracy,
self-direction, and collaboration in all areas of responsibility; develop joyful and professional
interpersonal relationships with stakeholders; and view their service as a vocation that is grounded in
truth, charity, and the characteristics of Lasallian ministry.

Experience: The successful candidate will possess five years of experience in an accredited secondary
school. Experience gained in a Catholic setting strengthens the application. A demonstrated understanding
of content-area curricular trends and instructional best practices, as well as curriculum design and
implementation in an Understanding by Design framework, strengthens the application. Familiarity with
community engagement and partnership development, the process for mentor development, and student
services also strengthens the application.

Specific tasks related to stakeholder groups
Students: Teach Practicum, Career Planning and Development, and Business courses. Prepare students for
placements by introducing them to professional skills and workplace culture. Ensure each student
completes requirements prior to their placement start dates. Communicate the status of placement to
students prior to each placement.

Mentors: Build positive and productive relationships with each mentor. Maintain open and timely
communication with each mentor. Respond quickly and efficiently to the concerns of mentors and
students. Build collaborative community/business partnerships.

Programmatic: Coordinate placements for approximately 80-100 high school students per academic year,
with some students requiring multiple placements in a variety of fields/careers. Facilitate the placement
process by sending mentors and students proposed placement schedules and making changes to schedules
as requested. Prepare, organize, and distribute informational material to mentors.Maintain a database of
mentors and their contact information. Expand the mentor database by forming dynamic partnerships.
Maintain Practicum budget and purchasing.

Education and licensure
An undergraduate degree in an appropriate field from a regionally accredited college/university is
required. An active, registered, and endorsed Illinois Professional Educator License is required at the time
of application and must be maintained during an appointment. In the absence of a Professional Educator
Licensee, an agreement with school leadership will be in place before the appointment.

As a faculty member, you are expected to:
1. Implement curricula and academic interventions that meet grade-level standards
2. Design and implement assessments that measure students’ progress toward grade-level

standards
3. Use student assessment data to refine curriculum and inform instructional practices
4. Communicate effectively with students, families, and colleagues
5. Create a positive, achievement-oriented, and structured learning environment that excites and

invests in students
6. Collaborate with teachers and leaders to improve instructional, culture-building, and leadership

skills by maintaining a cooperative and positive attitude that supports the mission and goals of
the school.

7. Maintain grading records, record daily attendance, and complete all required record keeping as
designated by administration.

8. Maintain open communication with all members of the school faith community
9. Be responsive to ongoing instructional coaching and a growth mindset to increase student

success
10. Attend and fully engage in all professional development, staff meetings, liturgies, and school

events such as but not limited to formation experiences, Back to School Night, Open House,
Baccalaureate, Graduation

11. Follow all expectations as outlined in the 2022-2023 Faculty Contract and Handbook
(published August 2022)

12. Any other duty as assigned by the school administration
