Research Technician, Department of Biology - Georgetown University College of Arts and Sciences
Job Overview
The Research Technician , both under supervision and independently, provides technical research support in a neurosciences research laboratory studying experience-dependent plasticity in the animal models. Following EHS standards, their responsibilities include but are not limited to maintaining detailed records, performing basic wet lab experiments, and - if assigned - participate in animal handling and breeding.
Work Interactions
Reporting to the Principal Investigator on a daily basis, the Research Technician interacts with other lab members, as well as members of the neighboring labs on potential collaborations; and with staff members of Georgetown's Office of Environmental Health & Safety and our Division of Comparative Medicine to coordinate matters concerning lab safety and animal husbandry.
Requirements and Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Neuroscience and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience with preparing solutions and buffers
  • Knowledge of lab safety requirements and procedures, including EH&S regulations and methods for handling, clean-up, and waste disposal for biohazardous materials
  • Proficiency with computer skills and experience with Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Excellent verbal, written, and electronic communication skills that facilitate professional, effective, and courteous interaction with colleagues
  • Ability to work both independently and as a team
  • Excellent organizational skills
Preferred Requirements and Qualifications
  • Experience with immunohistochemistry, cloning, western blotting and cell culture
  • Experience working with mice
  • Experience with running and troubleshooting biochemistry assays
