Job Title: Restoration Team Supervisor
Hiring Manager: Jason Mills
Pay: $30-40 per hour depending on experience
Since 2010 Ecological Solutions has provided specialized services in vegetation management and ecological restoration solutions. Our team is based out of the North Bay and provides natural resource based services throughout the entire San Francisco Bay Area. We are seeking a Restoration Supervisor to fulfill our mission which is centered around the preservation, protection, and enhancement of natural lands. This will primarily be a field based position, leading a team of technicians in ecological restoration services including native plant restoration, native plant landscaping, invasive plant control, site maintenance and irrigation, erosion control, and fire fuel management. Additional activities include data collection for reports and field research, documenting and mapping distributions of native resources and invasive populations, and strategically planning ecologically driven approaches to achieve optimal success on our project sites. The primarily component of this position is field based and is physically demanding year round. Candidates must be willing to work outdoors in wild and rough terrain through extreme weather conditions. Steep slopes and poison oak are common on most job sites.
Job Responsibilities:
● Provide leadership, support, and care for our Restoration Technicians focusing on team wellbeing and cohesion
● Perform on the ground training on approaches to work and specialized equipment through day-to-day activities
● Coordinate work schedules through organizing personnel and field equipment on multiple sites
● Lead various aspects of habitat restoration including; vegetation management, habitat restoration, native plant installation, irrigation design and installation, and project site maintenance
● Photo point monitoring, and tracking production and status of project sites.
● Mapping invasive species population distribution, and treatments
● Attending program and staff meetings, and periodic check-ins with General Manager
● Occasionally working on the weekends and possible overnight stays with advanced notice
Management Tasks:
● Supervise and direct field personnel including establishing schedules and work assignments.
● Work with the General Manager to track task budgets, work performed and project progress documentation.
● Meet task deliverables on time and budget
● Enforce OSHA safety regulations, safety orders, and supervision of jobsite PPE and water
● Conduct job site safety analysis and record regular tailgate safety meetings
Qualifications include:
● Experience in natural resources management, vegetation management, forestry, or landscape construction/maintenance
● Experience leading crews or volunteers
● Familiarity with hand tools and specialized power equipment including brush cutters, chainsaws, and chippers
● Experience leading manual, mechanical and chemical treatments for invasive plant control
● Ability to identify native and non-native plant species in the San Francisco Bay Area
● Understands OSHA safety regulations
● A California driver's license and the ability to operate large trucks and small equipment
● Must be able to consistently lift more than 50 pounds
Additional skills:
● Chainsaw safety certificate or the willingness to obtain one after 90 days
● First Aid or Wilderness First Aid Training
● Bilingual or Spanish speaking
Requirements:
● Represents organization in a professional manner at all times
● Responds positively and quickly to training and feedback
● Must be punctual and work must meet high expectations
● Able to reliably commute to project sites
● Ability to work on multiple assignments and meet multiple deadlines
● Shows initiative, performs quality work, and is efficient with production
● A commitment to and adherence to safety policies and direction from General Manager
Physical Requirements:
● High level of stamina and physical fitness
● Able to navigate steep slopes on foot, often while carrying loads
● Exposure to inclement weather, including rain, cold, heat, sun exposure, and high winds
● Must safely lift and transport heavy loads of 45 - 50 lbs. for an extended period and occasionally 100 lbs.
