Title: Instructional System Designer

Location: Remote

Role: The Instructional System Designer (ISD) is a member of a project team responsible for creating or updating online, in-class, and hybrid courses for US Air Force personnel serving in the civil engineering career field. The supported customer is the Air Force Civil Engineer Center at Tyndall Air Force Base in Panama City, FL. If you are looking for instructional design work that will challenge and grow your talents in new ways, this role is meant for you.

Duties:

  • Works with technical SMEs to lead or participate in Training Needs Analysis (i.e., Front End Analysis) to identify performance gaps between current training requirements and the customer’s desired requirements.
  • Applies knowledge of adult learning theory to articulate training needs as learning objectives, address the performance gaps, and align learning needs with learning outcomes, including recommendations on the use of advanced educational technologies.
  • Uses results of analysis to create draft course outlines in consultation with technical SMEs.
  • Leads or contributes to creation of storyboards containing recommended content, graphics / multimedia elements, user interface, and customer branding in collaboration with other team members for review and approval by the customer.
  • Assists with testing and/or functional checking of draft courses or course modules.
  • Gathers feedback from representatives of the target audience to improve the course content or address issues.
  • Provides expertise to improve project quality control and preventive mitigation of common course development risks.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Technical:

  • Clear evidence of experience using software tools to create or modify storyboards.
  • Strong practical knowledge of the ADDIE method of instructional design.
  • Able to use modern courseware authoring software such as Rise 360, Storyline, or Captivate.
  • Knowledge of common learning management systems such as Moodle, Blackboard, Canvas, etc. Experience developing courses for the US Air Force’s myLearning LMS is a plus, but is not a requirement.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required, or associates degree with 5 or more years of experience

Certifications:

  • Certifications or evidence of advanced training in ISD-relevant skills are a plus but are not required.

Experience:

  • Three (3) or more years as an ISD developing eLearning and paper-based used for web-based, classroom, and hybrid delivery. Experience in support of federal government contracts is a plus but is not a requirement.
  • Clear experience applying adult learning theory and principles, instructional design theory/evaluation methods, training techniques, and educational technologies to support the design, development, and delivery of courses.
  • Demonstrable experience using the ADDIE model for course development and evidence of having worked with technical SMEs and/or course instructors to develop learning objectives and course content.
